Having read with horror of places in England whereby our canals, and rivers, are and have been  contaminated, and yet these companies who are supposed to clean and check regularly on the state or conditions of these rivers it seems have done little except to make fistfuls of money doing nothing ,

it seems even in France where by they not that long ago began draining and clearing our their canals and the amount of silt and more surprising was bicycles  supermarket trolleys and in one even a motor bike.
so at least the systematic  way to keep their canals clean is to do just what they have begun,

do you think it time that this government got off its back side and started to clean our canals, rivers and even our sewerage plants, other wise how safe is  the water we get from our taps , unless some thing is done the N.H,S  will have another problem with contamination, on top of covid, strikes , and anything else ,.

Q; So what else would you like to see done to keep us healthy and safe from harm , as usual your thoughts will make interesting reading.

In these parts the river is not too bad. It gets the silt dredged out further downstream and certainly there are plenty of fish in it which wouldn't be the case if it was polluted.

The Northampton Arm of the Grand Union canal is used by leisure craft and those that live on their long boats but not as much as used to be the case which allows a build up of weed.

Unlike some canals there seem to be no sizeable fish so it really isn't worth fishing. I'm not sure if that is because of the water quality or the large number of Poles that do fish it and will eat anything it seems including the tiny fish they catch.

We used to be able to swim in parts of the Tay, it was not too fast in the summers when I was a child. We had 2 dredgers kept down near the harbor that worked every day clearing the bed. It was so clear where we swam you could count the rocks on the bottom. The dredgers were taken away some years back and now I won't let the dog in there.
Same up north with the River Thurso, it's very fast and you can't see the bottom.

We have the river Mole nearby.. No problems there..
We also have three big lakes.. I have never seen any rubbish in them..
I wouldn't even paddle in any of our seaside resorts..
We have always had stupid people who think it is clever/funny to throw junk into our rivers and canals.. Even bodies..!!
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Perhaps our canals are next in line for privatisation  ?

I think it is high time that we all realised that this is due to government policy,
to achieve third-world status for this country.

Perhaps they're thinking that, in such a case, we might qualify for foreign aid from more developed countries.

How selfish people are? Realise that by not counting stones on the bottom of all our waterways we can accommodate 'N' 000's, of asylum seekers? Same goes for potholes. Every time you wreck another alloy wheel on a fissure the size of a moon crater, be positive. Just think of the new mobile phone you've just bought for another worthy freedom seeker, recovering from war torn France, in a former 4 star hotel!
