I call it Road Tax because that's what it is, despite it trying to be hidden away by calling it Vehicle Excise Duty.

Anyway electric cars will be liable for road tax & rightly so.

They may be environmentally friendly, if you ignore the pollution caused in making the batteries & then disposing of them, but the point is that these cars cause as much, if not more, wear & tear to the roads so they should contribute.

They will cause more wear. They weight twice as much and accelerate like shit off a shovel.

My friend commented the other day as she attempted to cross the road "you can't hear these bloody cars "  She stepped back in time

that is worrying - I really think that they should have a noise generator. Several times, when my hybrid has been in quiet mode it is very clear that pedestrians haven't heard me. At least mine has a generated noise when in reverse, but why only reverse?

I've had that a few times in Morrison's car park.

Full electric do but it only operates at low speed. The idea is that tyre noise will take over above that. Those bloody electric scooters are the real menace as they get used (illegally) on pavements. At least for the most part electric cars are on the road or places you'd expect them to be.

I expect that the electric only edict will be quitely extended in time  or dropped altogether - if the grid can't even cope with current winter demand how will it manage when all the enegry required by IC cars has to be provided by it instead.

The increased cost of electricity and application of Road Tax is going to make them a whole lot less popular anyway.

I was waiting to cross at traffic lights the other day and noticed that some lorries have a new message about the need to stand clear as they are turning left.

Unless I have missed something, electric cars are bigger than average and heavier, and they don't get any lighter as the fuel is used up. They say there isn't enough lithium on the planet to make batteries for all the cars that are used. I think they have played this hand too early. Something better nay be invented later but it's not there now.

I fear that the aim is to reverse the last century and make personal transport for the little people something they can't afford.

God awful contraptions, spawned by Greta Thunbergers and Carrie Johnsons. Who can afford the stupid things anyway. A plague on all of these instruments of restrictive control. The Blob don't want personal transport for us plebs anyway, everyone's got to be coralled in their post coded arena's with an old bike and a pair of rollers skates for anything under two miles!
