Scrumpy

We had the loudest clap of thunder and lightning last week.. Just one strike.. The thunder sound was deafening..
We later learned that the lightning hit a plane at Gatwick nearby.. and it was forced to land..
It is on video..
 My worse fears when flying..
I do not enjoy flying.. never have.. Though i have flown far and wide.. I fear it..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I have only ever flown once,  many years ago  -  well twice if you count the return journey.
There was a storm when we flew,   scary stuff indeed.

I have never flown since.  I am not much of a traveller really.

Rough turbulence and heavy landings are no fun but they are as nothing  compared to that damned cross channel hovercraft. Once on that was more than enough for a lifetime. Return ticket used on the ferry instead.

I'm a little bit nervous but have only experienced really bad turbulence once, we had to circle New York for what seemed like an age.  The stewardess was sick !  it was that bad

I've never been on a Hovercraft, didn't fancy that at all !    North sea ferry to Rotterdam could be a bit worrying !

The only time I crossed the Channel on a Hovercraft, the sea was like a mill pond both ways, and it was a very fast crossing.

The last time I visited Oz, the home flight was delayed due to a thunderstorm over Melbourne and we landed at Heathrow in a gale. The flight to Newcastle was delayed because of the gale, and was still very bumpy indeed. The stewardess served coffee, then took it back in case we ended up wearing it.

Happy days.

only used the hovercraft once - it was so noisy!
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

The problem is if there are any waves of any size the skirts bang into them which makes it noisy  bumpy and decidedly uncomfortable.

I think the cabin  crew must enjoy a joke though. I'm not quite sure what one bloke had done to upset a stewardess but she served him up a vodka and orange full to the brim. I swear I could see a meniscus on top. The result was inevitable

On one flight I sat next to a pilot.. Everyone was told to return to their seats because of bad turbulence ..
He knew I was worried.. He said.. 'Don't worry.. They say that sometimes just to clear the aisle..'
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I was on a bad landing once when the air hostess began to cry .......

( but three Hail Marys later we landed ok ! )

These scary memories make me wonder . . .  maybe there is some truth in the saying - " If we were meant to fly, we'd have wings."

We were only designed to walk, and maybe swim,  -  not fly.

I can't remember exactly why but I think I'd been delayed on a job in Spain and was flying back on a Sunday and couldn't get a direct flight so had to use an internal connecting flight.

It would  have been from Alicante as that was where the new Ford plant was and I think it was to Barcelona. Now I was used to odd noises from plane servos as wing geometry is changed but not the damned graunching grinding racket that plane made. It was a jet not one of Francos bombers left over from the civil war but must have had either had a very hard life or a very long one. I was relieved when it touched down and relieved that there had been no turbulence.

Doubly relieved having seen the Spanish approach to work and maintenance. I had very soon learned that maƱana does not mean tomorrow as many think. The more precise translation is definitely not today.

Flying in to land at one time, we did a swift maneuver to avoid a plane that was crossing the runway..
That was scary.. We hade to circle the airport for ages..
Looking back .. I think we take chances in all travel..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Yet I think there are more road deaths.  I always felt safer in a jumbo than in a smaller
plane.
