Once you have to borrow money to pay interest on the debt I think that's somewhere very close to bankruptcy, although they say a country cannot be bankrupt. 

What happens is that the money loses value until eventually it's worth so little that they have to change the currency and exchange one unit for 100 old units.

I would point out, as most of us will remember, that a portion of chips was 6d in 1968. It's now £2.50 to £3. Over 100 times.

Reminds me.  I must find a new loan shark to borrow some cash to help service those other payday loans I took out, and send any surplus over to help Pakistan with its space program.
