We kids, my cousins and I, got quite excited if we got a siver threepenny bit in our pud. We always had to give them back for next year though!
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

I remember sitting with my two sister making paper chains to decorate the living room... We would go into the park and collect holly ..
My mum used to crack nuts as we sat around an open fire..
A pillowcase hung at the bottom of our beds .. Orange.. Apple .. and chocolate would be inside.. along with a present..
A group of us would go carol singing... We even sang outside the pub where they had a whip round for us.
Wonderful days.
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Seeing those,   with no shaped edges like I remember thrupenny bits had,  perhaps yours were what we had after all?   Maybe because yours had smooth edges I got muddled up with sixpences.   Dunno.

klondike

Sixpences got used I imagine but nobody is likely to have put brass thrupenny bits in imo.

Yes I agree.   So whether ours were the old type thruppenies like you said, or 6d's,  I will probably never know now.

JBR said they weren't legal tender but there are plenty on eBay around that time and the 12 sided brass ones on there seem to be later so I think he was wrong. They don't usually withdraw coins just a year or two after minting them. I remember farthings going.

Mups

I think I remember farthings too.   Didn't they have a little Robin on one side?

klondike

Yes. At least some did. Maybe all.
