As a citizen aged 80 next, I pay less than $500 a month, but dearer because I joined later in life (77). But remember there are no NHI deductions whilst you are working. My policy covers me for up to $5m dollars. There is not an 18 month waiting period either for you to die in, whilst waiting hospital entry! I also have a private arrangement with my local 'GP'(PCP) over here on a pay as you go basis, it's about $100 a visit for as long as you need, not the 8 minute slots I used to get in the UK. Medicines are far cheaper too.

I can honestly say from experience that 'overall' the US is not only cheaper to live in but far more efficient too, they don't 'tolerate crap'. Of course you would be wise to skip 'Woke' states like California where cravenly weak management results in reservoirs with no water etc.

But, take an Apple computer, or iphone say 40% cheaper,  State tax's v Council taxes much better. Food inflation is 4 times smaller than the UK and my guests notice this, with petrol pump prices too first. Capital items like housing are far better as well. My neighbours's grand son bought the property below (a first time buy) for the equivalent of £147,000 in a good area in Grand Rapids Mi.

But they can't make a decent cup of tea or a proper bacon sandwich.

Or pronounce oregano or aluminium.
The problem with being retired is that you never get a day off

Marge has just looked up the average waiting times in A&E in all of our local hospitals.  Every one is below the national average.  For some reason, these hospitals have all been established in 'yob areas'!

Knowing the locations of some of these hospitals, I suggested that there should be a £10 entry fee to every A&E department.  The filled to capacity waiting rooms would instantly become quite sparse, especially in the evenings: the usual time-wasters would decide not to bother and, instead, just go for another drink.  "Eh, it'll be reet."

Ambulance admissions excepted, of course!

What,  even if they were taken in by ambulance?
How would someone unconcious be able to take his wallet?

I did indeed, but fortunately ambulance men all have lots of money to spare.

Ashy

This morning is foggy in London. We haven't seen fog, probably for years. Luckily it doesn't fill with smoke since the clean air acts 1965.

I remember about 1962 or 63 we had a smog so thick you couldn't see a your hand in front of your face. I kept walking into mine. Some of my teachers didn't get home until 11pm. Bastards were all back next morning.

Scrumpy

Foggy morning here too..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

But who goes to waste time in A and E ?
Surely you only go there when strictly necessary who the heck wants to wait hours in a hospital

All emergency admissions go through A&E I think.
