What do you think of this idea?

In the paper today it says  that  Hair & Beauty salon staff are being trained to spur women on to go for cervical cancer screening.
There are to be free courses run aiming to give workers the skills to have conversations about cancer with their customers.
This idea is going to be run in areas with low take-up of testing by the Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance.

So what's your opinion?
Personally,  not only can I not  see it working,  but asking hairdressers to talk about cancer is much like asking them to swap jobs and expect doctors to cut hair!

I wonder how the men would feel if their Barber suggested customers they should get prostate checked, when he only went in for a short back and sides?

Alex

I really can't see this taking off, but having said that I guess hairdressers do hear a lot of chat about various subjects, including cancer.  At my hairdresser we have a good laugh and I feel cheered up once he's finished his magic

Your comment has given me another thought, Alex.   How would you feel about MALE  hairdressers advises us on cervical scanning?

I see hairdressers even less often than my GP. Only slightly less I suppose. Once in about 5 years is very close to zero.

So how will you know when to get your prostate checked without a barber to tell you?

(Only kidding).

My hairdresser is a fella and he wouldn't be interested in talking to me about cancer, or any other illness.  Next they'll be training the fella at the chippy to spot mental health problems

Now not a lot of people know this...

Finasteride is a dual use medicine.
At a low dosage rate it is a cure for hair loss.
At a higher rate it is used to treat enlarged prostate.

Thank you for that information,  but let's hope I never need it.

Considering your own extensive mane, I think you're taking enough for your prostrate.
