I'd never heard of him and it seems he resigned from the party before the election. A former chief whip.  I can't make anything of that TBH

The clue is in the fact that his legal team are Carter-Ruck.

He was suspended for a year after a complaint was made against him, but the result of the investigation hasn't been published, neither has the nature of the complaint.  It appears that because he left the party the investigation was scrapped.  Allegedly
