I really miss Bagels!
When the brother was alive and I made frequent trips to London to stay with him  - one of the delights of the day was the early morning walk to a little Jewish bakery in the next street to buy freshly made Bagels and Kichel.  A delicious start to the day.

There are no Jewish shops here at all.  A couple of places calling themselves 'Bagel Shops' opened in town a while ago - but - their bagels are tasteless, nothing like the real thing.

Once, and only once, I tried to make my own bagels.  Sadly, one could have cobbled the street with the results. Kichel - I can do.

Have seen packets of bagels in Sainsbury's but not been tempted to try them.
Can anyone recommend a really good brand of bagel

You could try Lidl, their bakery has won awards.  The bread is good, I buy a low GI cob and it's lovely.  Brownies and Yum Yums are delicious, GM will confirm this    I haven't tried Bagels, but maybe worth a try.

Lidl are currently doing a free bakery item (of their choice) after every shop.  There is also a free item of your choice after you spend £50 during the month. The calories in bakery items are frightening. It seems the nicer stuff is the more it buggers up your diet.

Our Lidl is the other side of town from me - but will suggest a trip there when my friend next takes me shopping.  Thank you.
