Four thousand people trapped down a legally closed mine..

This is in North Africa..
The people are illegal trespassers mining a closed mine..
The government will not help them .. They will not supply them with food and water waiting for them to be forced out.. Then arresting them..

That's the way to do it..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

:nooo: It's South Africa but the principle is right. Apparently this is not the only illegal mine in the country. It's a gold mine, and of course the "chancers" mining it are hoping for a good payout. Police are also saying they think the number underground is a lot lower than 4,000, and the mine was closed for safety reasons.

They are not trapped according to the article, they can come out at any time but they will be arrested. Can you just hear the bleeding hearts if it was in this country, they would be on the side of the intruders.
It's being dealt with properly IMO.

In a cavern, in a canyon
Excavating for a mine
Dwelt a  zama zama, forty-niner
And his daughter, Clementine

Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling, Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Criminali.

South Africa should report themselves to the ICJ

They are TRAPPED in the sense that if they come to the surface they will be arrested..

So their self incarceration has led to them being incarcerated either within or without those walls?  Their choice.  If you don't like the time, don't do the crime.

It would be nice if our country, what's left of it, might be as severe on criminals.
Also nice if we had gold mines too or, better, diamond mines.
We still have coal, though.

As my father (who art in heaven for quite a while now) used to argue, it is not us nor a judge who sends anyone to prison.  It is the criminal themselves.

To refuse to provide an appropriate harsh sanction for them to ponder about their ways is an infringement of their rights.
