Not all of our boards are visible to guests so not all get indexed by google and will never be seen by the general public.

Now the change I've made is in the forlorn hope that we may get visitors who come here not to sign up and post links to porn, Viagra, drugs, scams and the like. We probably still won't be but the change won't cause anybody any inconvenience.

The Hints and Tips board was set up as a guide to using the forum but from questions I've seen here the odds are that only I ever read any of it. It was set as a locked section with post and replies only possible by me.

Now I've been tearing my hair out trying to get something to work. There is loads of crap information and lots of questions on forums but none of it did me a ha'porth of good. I think I've got it nailed now and it occurred to me that if people looking for the same answer I was found a post here then although they may not be a pensioner they may know one who just might be interested in us.

So...

If I really have sorted my annoying problem I'll post a topic on how to do it. Nobody here is likely to be interested of course and I'll delete any replies that aren't on the topic.

I'll put this right at the top which also appears in the board description..

This forum is mostly a friendly place for pensioners to chat. You may not be a pensioner but if you know one tell them to take a look here. They will be very welcome.

Now the next bit - maybe you've come up with a solution for anything which is hard to find a solution for then perhaps you could post up a thread there about it along with that little intro.

As I said probably won't do anything but we do need a few more members to keep the place ticking over.

Well my stuff on Solar Assistant has been indexed by google and by using all the relevant keywords quite high in the results too.
Will it produce any new members? Probably not.
Will I get any signups to Octopus via my referral link which I just realised was worth adding? Probably not.

Still it's worth a try.

If anybody else fancies writing a Dummies guide to ... type post that you think may get found then please do.

This is what brought me here, computers haven't been my thing since I was told not to refer to data processors as computers 55 years ago, so I dumped that and chopped trees down for a living for 45 years, been retired nearly 10 years and went on the solar PV journey 12 years ago.

Last year I "upgraded" to a Sunsynk  with a GSL battery and all seemed hunky dory until I shifted to Octopus Flux  and realised the Sunsynk doesn't lend itself to exporting in the early evening like my daughter's solis does. I'm an emigrant from another forum where information on the Sunsynk is non existent. The Sunsynk and battery was specified by my supplier who was the only one willing to fit a slave inverter to my original inverter.

Got the Solar Assistant running but don't understand the automation. If I can get the export automated it will be a cheap system compared with other options.

The automations I have put in the hints and tips work for me. I've had mishaps where I had finger trouble and on a couple of occasions the inverter didn't respond to a command. The log from one of those..

[Sat Oct 11 02:00:05] Failed to set Capacity point 2 to 100: No response

Apart from that although it isn't perfect I've been pleased with it. I have made a few minor changes to the automations already posted but nothing worth changing the examples for

If you need any specific help just ask and I'll try. As you should have seen you need Workmode to force export.

Oh and welcome to letschat of course. We are a small group and  getting a new member is good news. There is a little more to see now you are registered and more will appear once you get settled in.

I see hints and tips -Sunsynk etc. are locked. Does this mean they cannot be replied to? Or am I doing something wrong?
I too have made a cooling device from scraps.

Hints and tips were initially information on how to do pretty standard things on the forum. It was never intended to be a discussion area.

The problem I have with attracting new members which we do need is that any Google search for pensioners forum leaves this site on about page 97 of the results. There is little I can do to fix that as there is a long established board called pensioners forum and lots of council forums which Google wil rank higher than here. If you search for friendly pensioners forum we will be there but nobody searches for that.

I had a lot of trouble finding any decent information on producing solar assistant automations for my SunSynk inverter and the inbuilt one is buggy. It occurred to me that anybody with both is going to be searching and would maybe find this site. Now that isn't likely to be pensioners but whoever does may have parents or grandparents who may be interested so that's why I ask anybody that finds those hints and tips to condsider pointing any pensioners they know here.

I added a board for anybody who wanted to discuss just their solar assistant problems - https://letschat.club/index.php?board=28.0 without the need to join the forum.

You joined and started this thread in announcements which is fine but don't expect much response from anybody other than me here on inverters. If you want to participate in anything open to you in the main forum feel free. If you out don't then that's ok too but don't expect to see all of the forum in that case.

Ah, I'm not sure I fully understand, as I said I'm a numpty when it comes to  playing with electronic webby things. I was a regular participant in usenet but as that declined  I mostly frequent  a forum about my old trade and one on renewable energy, same username.

I'll look around and see if I share interests with members.

This is for the most part a general chat forum. What we have in common is being pensioners. We mostly migrated here from a couple of other forums aimed at those past the first flush of youth. This one was started up when it looked so like the person who ran one had pretty much given up on it. The other one the the owner irritated quite a few members and some ended up here. Most still have accounts on here and their "home" forums. I have used both but no longer visit either.
