Energy saving measures

Be as serious or as flippant as you like for ideas for saving energy.

One thing that occurred to me is that now that pedestrians have complete right of way when crossing roads and don't need to look out for traffic, we no longer have the need for pelican nor zebra crossings.  This would save a fortune in installation and electricity running costs, and this money could be used more usefully on building and staffing larger A&E provisions for the likely increase in injured pedestrians.
