Disadvantages of SMRs
The current main disadvantage of SMRs is their lack of development – they do not currently exist as reactors for power generation.

That problem can of course be fixed but over what timescale? The nutty end for private ICE cars has been set at 2030 and iirc no new gas boliers from 2025.

Yes, although they are still in a development stage, there are some presently under construction right now:

"There are currently four SMRs in advanced stages of construction in Argentina, China and Russia"  (from this site:   Small modular reactors (SMR) | IAEA)

If they can do it, we can!  And if we got our arses in gear right now, I'm sure we could have some up and running as quickly as anyone. 
After all, as I mentioned earlier, Rolls Royce have been making them for some years now for our submarines.  I suspect that any hold-ups would be in overcoming any safety concerns, which are inevitably forthcoming.
