Shell have just sent us the energy price cap rise details from the 1st January but protected by the Energy Guarantee until April 2023.

Why do we have to pay so much for standing charges ?

I'm guessing here but I think may be partly used to recover the costs of paying for all the energy companies that went bust. It ain't paid for current gas storage facilities that's for sure. Perhaps it could be used for resurrecting those the bloody Tories with their Nett Zero garbage had closed down though.

They are all going to be the same I think. There is no longer any competition in the consumer energy market.
