billion, that is, of people on the planet - and I can't see the trend ever changing for the foreseeable future. Surely, over-population os a far greater problem than climate change?

Science has so far allowed agriculture to keep up but look up the BS going on in the Netherlands right now concerning "nitrogen crisis". If that spreads then the population problem will sort itself out.

I though this was going to be about the number of active daily posters here which is looking grim too.

Most of this population explosion has occurred elsewhere, in fact the indigenous population of England is barely staying constant, our population growth has all come from immigration, which suggests to me that we need to be more careful with our borders.

If any people cannot or will not control their population growth they shouldn't think they can just come here and take our resources.

From what I understand, the population of Scotland is aging, and not enough young ones to replace them in the work force.

Hence the need for immigrant labour, to work in the health and care sectors, and pay NI to fund pensions.  Fine if its properly managed and controlled.

My daughter's job involves training nurses in her specialism, a growing number are international.  The government are to blame for a shortage of UK trained nurses by removing their bursaries and putting them on the same footing as other undergraduates.  Nowadays, many students have to work to help fund their studies. Nurse training includes working shifts in hospital as part of the course. They can't fit both in. 

Fortunately my daughter did her initial nursing training before a degree was required, she furthered her studies whilst working for the NHS, to masters level. Her younger cousin joined the forces where she trained as a nurse, eventually she moved into lecturing, and is a professor in the University of the Highlands, teaching nurses and other healthcare professionals..

I do wonder if anyone, other than those who forced the changes through, really believe that nurse training has improved sonce those changes?
