With many empty houses, many owned by foreigners, could their houses be used in their absence,  by people arriving illeaglly on our shores looking for some where to live

Q; do you think this too could be another problem being as too  few houses are being built. what views have you regarding squatting,

Sheila

There are far too many houses being built in our area.  A local builder is buying up large gardens and building, usually four, detached houses in them.  A local councillor helped us to prevent our neighbour selling his garden.  We would have had a new house with bedroom windows looking into our conservatory.

Leverhulme Estates are trying to sell off green belt land for new housing estates - yes that benevolent Lord Leverhulme who was so good to his tenants in Port Sunlight.  The goodness has obviously gone now.

I think there are probably enough homes for buyers. However social rented housing must be increased, along with affordable and suitable homes for an ageing population.

I believe that empty homes should be taxed more heavily to deter them being left unoccupied for years.

There are plenty of empty buildings in city centres that could be adapted to make housing.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Instead of worrying about those who arrive illegally to our shores.. Let us start to solve the problem of housing for those who have lived here for some time and are struggling to find a place to live..
I'm fed up with the time and money WASTED on seeking out hotels and accommodation for those who shouldn't be here in the first place..
Every bloody day we read about illegals arriving/escaping/ and moaning about something or other..
What about the people already here who need dental treatment but cannot find a NHS dentist.. !!
What about those who can't even get past the doctor's receptionist in order to get a check up from their doctor. !!
Those who have paid NI for yonks..
and this is what we pay our taxes for..  :nooo:
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

The illegals are a mere drop in the ocean compared to the numbers allowed in legally who also need homes and services.

Given the population growth largely fuelled by inward migration is there any wonder that our infrastucture is creaking in every area. If HMG wants to let in the numbers it is letting in then there is one hell of a lot of money needed upgrading just about everything. Even with astronomically high energy prices they are already talking about the possibility of power cuts this coming winter - while pushing ahead with the drive for more electic cars to replace fossil fuel ones.

So the much-needed new housing will be ok in someone else's back garden?

The government should really secure future energy. There is no real reason for power cuts except for rural line maintenance.

As to back gardens and houses, immigration is the biggest problem. Unfortunately it is the only lever the government uses to grow the economy and business is addicted to growth.

Not far from my cousin's home they're building on fields that were very often flooded.  We thought they'd squash rows and rows of terraced homes on there but no, only 4 and 5 bed detached houses so far.

Scrumpy

That is what they have done where my daughter Marnie lives.. They built on land that often flooded.. Big houses and lovely apartment blocks.. Little wooden bridges that cross over streams..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Jacqueline

Do the houses come with a free lifeboat?

Scrumpy

   No flooding.. They have sorted all that..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I'm sat here watching our fields turning into Lochs at the moment. It's like night it's so dark out there, the rain is torrential. The ground is hard baked from the last couple of weeks of hot weather, so the rain is not soaking in, thank goodness I'm not out with the Clyde's, we had planned to get them out this evening if the weather played nice. But......Not a chance.  :boo:
That's all my plants going to be flattened and wrecked.
