Title: Is this fair?
Post by: GrannyMac on October 14, 2022, 09:07:10 AM
Immigrants can get free university education in Scotland.  I have no doubt this girl will be an asset to the country when she qualifies.  However, I have a particularly clever grandchild, who excels in maths and sciences (her school would back up my assertion) who might like to go to a Scottish university, to be close to most of her relatives on our side.  My family go back forever in Scotland, but she'd have to pay, because we moved to England.

Solution is move her to Scotland. She'll have to live there in order to attend a uni.

The thing that concerns me is that there are specific residency rules that precluded this girl from receiving free university tuition.

However, as she's an immigrant, the Court has ignored the residency rules to allow her to have free tuition.

Why don't we just invite the whole bloody world into the British Isles, give them all the same rights as we have and be done with it.  Will be standing room only, but might as well get it over with as they are coming here anyway taking advantage and getting everything that us, our parents and grandparents fought for. I am close to giving up.

I'm rather afraid "we" have, at least our politicians have. Thank goodness they don't all come at once.

She would have to have been resident in Scotland from an early age!

Perhaps if fees were charged in line with the rest of the UK Scotland could do more to reduce its drug problems.

So that's only an option for certain people, I 'm sorry about that.

I think that's disgraceful, particularly as GM's granddaughter has Scots relatives.   Do the children of those EU citizens with "settled status" also receive free university education,  along with other migrants ?

Well at least Scotland comes top of the league for something.

Ooh, low blow! Its really sad, five times as many drug related deaths as England, yet proportionately higher public spending. Its related to post industrialisation from the 1980s, but that was just as bad here.
