It seems that this government has finally woke up and under pressure had to do some thing to help the population in food, fuel , and any other bills which many are all ready suffering and with more bills and price increases on the horizon ,
over the years the pensioners were left out and their pension eroded well below other countries who it seems looked after their pensioners better than the u.k

also why didn't the uk   re- use old gas works to store gas so that instead of the uk having two weeks supply against France and Germany who have and store gas up to three months supply ,
now iv read that the chancellor is going to give pensioners £800 .pounds , so i wonder like many of you where is all this money coming from. ? as one suggestion is from pensions?  whos, pension, ?   and more importantly how or where is it going to be repaid (as for sure the books wont balance in this all of a sudden give away money left right and Centre, has to be accounted for some where within the system  , so is it live now and pay later ,

Q; do you wonder how money now is like confetti but later  for many will end in tears, when its time to pay back ?
what are your thoughts and will you share them with us,

We are already seeing the tears caused by all the money that was simply printed to fund the lockdowns.

Lockdowns so important it seems that those who imposed them didn't bother following the rules they had set themselves - from Cummings on his day trip to test his eyesight to Ferguson entertaining his mistress to Boris ignoring and sometimes joining the many booze ups at Number 10 along with others those oh so expensive lockdowns were not really considered to be important at all. Apparently Starmer too thought they were just for the little people.

Mind you there was probably no problem caused by all that rule breaking as it sounds like a German parliamentary report  has concluded that Lockdowns achieved nothing anyway...

Money can always be found ... I think we spend millions in aid to others..
We also spend a few bob housing illegals .. Millions are lost to scammers who cheat the system..
We could cut back on perks /wages given to those who do little but claim much..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

The fact that the so-called experts didn't find any evidence that lockdown didn't do anything isn't quite the same as the so-called experts actually proving that lockdown didn't do anything.

Governments can always find money. They either borrow it or have the central bank print it. Bit like having a credit card that never maxes out and knowing that somebody else will be picking up the tab.

Nobody has shown any proof that they did either.

I look at lockdown on the same basis that I look at my seatbelt.

No one can prove that my seatbelt will save my life if I have crash & no one can prove that not wearing it will kill me.

I wear it just to be on the safe side, same as I wore a mask & obeyed lockdown to be on the safe side.

Fair enough. The thing is wearing a seatbelt costs nothing. Imposing lockdowns costs billions and we are paying for that now with high inflation.

There is also plenty of evidence that they had adverse effects on child development and the mental health of many. GP services were not good before lockdown but they are abysmal now for many people. The number of deaths from late cancer diagnosis is likely to exceed covid deaths. The NHS backlog will probably last a decade.

There is plenty of proven downside but no proof of any benefit. Most governments are going to brush this under the carpet so there will be very few studies funded.

Thank goodness for that.. Funding useless studies cost much..
It makes me laugh how studies are put in place to study what went wrong..
.. and then we get that old familiar cry.. 'We have learned by our mistakes'..
No they bloody haven't because they go on to make the same mistake again.. and again..

As for where will the money come from?  If we had a cash society we couldn't find enough cash to cover it all, I believe this money is all smoke and mirrors doesn't actually exist except on paper.

I get my pension each month in my bank account, I pay my utility bills by DD the "money" is transferred to their account, as is everything else I pay for with my Debit Card, the small amount of cash I draw out is the only money I see.  If we all went to the bank tomorrow and drew out our money, like in the old days and the "run" on the banks, there wouldn't be enough cash to go around.

These vast amounts of money don't physically exist.

Yep. Money is only tokens to exchange for something. Whether it is gold coins, sea shells or just numbers on a ledger is irrelevant so long as somebody will take whatever is offered in exchange for goods or services.

We don't even have copper coins anymore let alone real silver or gold. Those "coppers" are steel that is plated to look like copper. Real copper would be worth more than the coin. The scrap value of a £50 note is as close to zero as makes no difference. If HMG wants some money it doesn't even bother printing or minting any it just has a new entry put in a ledger somehere. Not even a real ledger. Just a computer record.
