But I feel they already have..
Cheeky buggers are now dictating as to where they wish to live..

Scotland should be happy about it..

I've read that Afghanistan is nice and warm....

They don't want to come here, and I don't want them here in Wales thanks, theres something to be said for speaking Welsh ( I don't though).

Reading the article, 2000 homes are needed for them and 500 of these need to be 4 bedroom to accommodate their huge amount of kids (no TV in Afganistan?) who have to be schooled.  Then there are the Hong Kong folk, the rest of the legal immigrants coming in large numbers, the dinghy boys, where does it all end?

As I have said a million times before we are in crisis, our governments of both parties haven't given proper thought over the years to how many people this country can sustain, to the energy, water, food, housing, NHS, cram 'em all in has been their policy they are sitting fiddling while Rome (Britain) burns. To quote Gary from another post we live in an Idiocracy.

20 years ago, the housing department where I worked had surplus properties.  Some were leased to the government to house asylum seekers. These were in areas where there was little or no demand then, and those asylum seekers who became eligible for social housing tenancies (awarded Leave to Remain) were given the opportunity to take over those tenancies.

Some stayed on, they'd settled, kids at school etc., but many just wanted to go to London. They were free to get jobs and to move wherever they wanted.  We told them they would not get a council property, housing was very expensive, but it didn't make any difference.  Its almost like nowhere else in the UK existed for some.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Not so for the east Europeans though...

In the 1990's my son's friend a single chap in his 30's got a three bedroomed council house in Cwmbran, Wales on his own, which would never normally happen  it was a dreadful estate nobody wanted to live there.   He stayed a few years couldn't stand any more  eventually coming back to Devon to live in a privately rented place.

There must be sink estates where they can move the residents out to better accommodation and put the asylum seekers there instead, that's where I would put them, it's up to them to improve the place, but when you look at places like Afganistan and how they live it won't happen.

Why should they have better housing than any native?

I do not agree..
Why allow groups of foreigners ,illegal or otherwise, to take over areas that are considered unfit for those already here and struggling to find somewhere decent to live.. !!
Surely this will encourage segregation .. and allowing others of the same group to build up a community..
Wouldn't it be better to make the properties decent for those who are already in need..

"  Surely this will encourage segregation  "   the country is already segregated Scrumpy with huge immigrant only areas in most big cities.

It's what multicultural means. At least it's what it leads to as the old saying birds of a feather has always held true. If there was a random scattering rather than the clumping we get I don't think there would be any problem.

A monoculture is where everything is the same and is usually reckoned to be bad for ecosystems.

Alex

I know what multi culturalism is klondike,  I just don't explain myself properly - obviously.  If you want to use the word monocultures, isn't that what the ghettoes have become  ?

You've just added another para to your post 😎

You were too quick for me. I tend to do my proofreading after I've posted rather than before and didn't express myself how I wanted to at first.

IMO what we have created is not healthy any more than a whites only society would be.

Alex

OK, but what was wrong with the "whites only" society our Mums and Dads lived in ?  There certainly wasn't as much crime.

Why should they have better housing than any native?

Our council let houses out to single people too if no families wanted them. It meant the rent was paid. Thats also why some northern councils had contracts with the Home Office to use unpopular properties, no longer the case.  There were years when house buying was soaring and the demand for social housing dwindled. Empty properties meant no rent and costly repairs due to vandalism etc.  Twenty or so years ago Northern councils advertised empty houses across London to try and attract tenants.

Our council, and others, demolished and/or sold off unpopular housing, then demand started to rise again as house prices rose, and wages didn't.  Now the housing registers are full.  There's an estate not far from here that is pretty rough, its ethnically very mixed, basically because only those with no choice will take a tenancy there. There's private housing a few miles away that is run down, cheap and mainly owned by Asian landlords. Mostly let to Eastern Europeans atm.  No 'natives' are clamouring to live in those areas.

When we first moved from Scotland, we lived in a run down area, cheap private rent, it was my first experience of living amongst an ethnically mixed community.  There were Indian owned shops, and our next door neighbours were Jamaican. Fifty odd years on, there are lots of Eastern Europeans in that area now, and Polish shops.  It suggests that as one generation improves their lot, they move onwards, some even upwards.  Just as we natives do. 'White flight?'

Two houses on from there, we were in a nice suburb, with good schools.  We had friends there, in one of the more expensive houses. Their next door neighbour was the one with the Roller on the drive.  The dad had come here with nothing from India, built up a successful business on the markets, working every hour he could.  My kids had friends in the area from Indian, Pakistani and Italian backgrounds.  Families who wanted their children to do well, who had similar values and life styles to us.  What's wrong with that?

The sheer numbers, especially since Blair opened up the borders, illegal immigration and the lack of integration are the main problems, and need to be tackled. No argument there.  But its not white = good, non white = bad.  Its evident we aren't only mixed by race and ethnicity.  We are mixed by behaviour, aspiration, income, lifestyle, and more.

Sorry about the lengthy post.
