I watched the Commonwealth games, where there are separate teams from the home nations. We supported them all, but our home nation first!  Now we have the European championships where those same athletes join together to compete for GB.  Earlier there was the World Championships, with a team from the UK.  Some train together across borders, and the relay teams in swimming and athletics contain individuals from across the UK.

Thats how I see our country, friendly rivalry (except when its fitba' and unfriendly), but also working together for the greater good.  If the SNP get their referendum, and win independence, I'd wish Scotland well. However, I believe the raised taxation they'd have to impose to fulfil their dream of a socialist utopia wouldn't be popular, and there may well be an exit south by some higher tax payers.  Or perhaps some pro independence wealthy ex pats like Brian Cox (actor) might return to help fill the coffers.

The name 'Scottish National' stirs the loyalty of many Scots, who  see 'England' as an oppressor. Those of us who have crossed borders realise that's not the case. In most divorces, a household's finances have to be split, the same income has to support two homes, two lots of costs that were previously shared. As the smaller nation, surely a complete split will impact negatively on Scotland's finances more than on the rest of the UK?  Or don't the SNP care?

The biggest issue if Scotland went aloe would be the sharing out of national debt. Would Scotland have a share of the costs of Covid, RBS and the other debt issues, or would it expect England to pay as usual.

And would they finally pay back the Darien bale out? Plus interest.

It seems to me Scotland getting far to much money from Westminster.

Liz Truss says one of her jobs will be Minister of the Union. Just what does that mean for Scotland  :?: will it mean reducing Nicola power  :?: interesting times ahead.

GM "  Or don't the SNP care? "
You're probably right there GM, a lot of SNP voters do care, of course they do, but I've always thought Sturgeon was full of her own self importance and is the wrong person to be in charge of Scotland's future.

I think you're right Alex.  The money spent on embassies would perhaps be better directed at reducing drug misuse and the highest death rate in Europe.  Reading about drug deaths in Scotland, it's attributed to poverty. Yet Wales has the highest rate of poverty in the UK followed by England.  For every £1 England has to spend per person, Scotland currently spends £1.30.

Scotland would be far better off getting rid of Nicola and the SNP. They are getting a lot of money which is being wasted.

I'm intrigued by this talk of embassies. Is there such a thing as Scottish citizenship then? I thought we were all British. Can  I be an English citizen instead or is this yet another option offered the Scots and denied to us poor oppressed English (such as having no parliament of our own).

As Krankie's joining the EU, another N.I. protocol scenario surfaces, but this time in reverse. Mind you England might be able to do a nifty deal in this way?  Scotland would take up all Dover's inward boat people thereby boosting flagging population problems.  A win, win for the land of the caber, around £200k for each asylum seeker taking the 'high road' from Dover (renewable every year on the gold standard reliability of the triple lock advance from Westminster), lubbly jubbly. Lots of 'pop-up' mosques appearing like toadstools. The Glens with the pipes tunefully competing with the call to prayer, every Friday, something to look forward too, a modern dream for Nicola's globalists. Suachiehall Street the new European Mecca for multicultural welcome, the revamped Highland Games with beheadings as top of the Bill!
