Oh dear the Greens, Guardian readers, Mrs Johnson and old mother May et al won't like this at all because 'it's common sense' and thats just silly in today's internecine world.

Most of our paid politicians are so far insulated from reality that common sense is an alien concept to them. I assume that is why they take advice from madmen and implement it on the public.

He never mentioned the many young couples have agreed a
mortgage for their dream house  find it pulled.
Nor many pensions funds that very nearly went bust

What makes Nigel stand out from the political crowd is that he says what any bloke in a building site mess hut will be saying.

Borrowers have been living in a fool's paradise for years - now we are seeing chickens coming home to roost. Personal indebtedness is, as I understand it, at an all time high and there are going to be some very hard cases over the next few months, probably going into late spring.
Cutting taxes has become an anathema to the political classes - even Boris was guilty despite his earlier promises - and 'net zero' has to bear an awful lot of the blame.

They all seem to be in favour of more government. I think they loved the control they got from the Covid emergency powers. Lower taxes means there has to be less government. I hope this pays off for more than personal reasons (the tax cuts bring me only minor benefit) - I believe in less government too.

Me too - and one of the reasons that I voted to leave the EU which is all in favour of big government.

If I remember the economic theory of interest, it should be placed lower than an investment that carries average risk.

One of the reasons I voted leave was immigration.   Now I wish the Poles and the Czechs were back, at least they kept the Christian churches going !  Now we're being over run by hundreds of thousands of Black and Arab muslims.

I don't care if it's racist, I really don't.

Couldn't agree more Alex.

They are young single men from counties where women are not available only for marriage, they mist think they are in a sweet shop, silly young girls are taken in by them like they were from the Pakistani rapists, think they are exciting, different.  Next thing you know the girl will be pregnant and the dingy boy will claim a "Family Life" in our country.

Too right, I was talking to a bloke in Morrisons who said that his mortgage rate was 17% at one point in the 1970s.

He went bust as he was living in the South East & moved to Lincolnshire where he could afford a house.

The home buyers in the last 14 years have had their mortgages paid by us savers who got bugger-all interest.

I'd rather be getting bugger all interest and 2% inflation than slightly more than bugger all and 12% or more inflation. Interest rates paid on savings have never matched inflation but at least the difference was only a percent or two..

I remember my mortgage rate was 17% too, but I was living abroad and the house was rented out.  I don't think the rent covered the mortgage, but can't be sure   :hmm:
