Sheila

Thanks for sorting me out klondike.  I had a problem with my password and he sorted me out with a witty one.

We've just had a walk along the prom and the wind, blowing from The Irish Sea, was absolutely icy.  The kite surfers were out but it did look rather dangerous.  Lots of seagulls were dropping shellfish onto the concrete to try to break the shells.  The sun was shining and it looked beautiful, a bit like a Lowry painting with all the dark figures on the beach.

I have now set up a working email server that isn't my gmail account. It has the drawback that gmail flagged it as potential spam so the only thing that is important - lost password emails may not get through. It also means I can't use email verification on signup. I may just do the stuff I had to to get gmail to work on the old domain. I'll have to fing out how others do it without using a maibox which is a sledgehammer to crack a walnut for the volumes of mail involved.

Found my notification, in my inbox. (Not unusual).

It's good to be here!

Well done klondike/ Mark.  :upvote:
As you slide down the banister of life.
May the splinters never point in the wrong direction.

I had to send the emails out as somebody wasn't automatically swished from the old site to this. It worked perfectly for me but not him. I can only think that the old page was cached and served somewhere along the line rather than the new one which is a redirect. I didn't want people stuck in lmbo so I sent the mail out to everyone who hadn't logged in already.

This link to the old url should magically dump you back here. As should all the ones google has been squirrelling away the last few weeks although they will be changed to point here by them at some point anyway.

My old link didn't work, the link in the e-mail did though AND Edge gave me the option of saving my password, which I wasn't offered previously.   :upvote:

I can't claim credit for the password. I suspect that you were offered before and declined so it sulked.

My old link didn't work
Now that is odd. There should be no caching of dynamic pages which the home page, like just about all is (the content is not fixed) I have no clue why you werent served the modified page which will redirect here.

Alex

When I clicked on my saved PF Mk II link there was a message
something like "  err.......we can't find that link" so I went to the e-mail from you and copied and pasted.

klondike

Maybe you hadn't got the home page saved? I don't know. All's well that ends well though so I'm glad I sent the emails.

Alex

Yes it was in my favourites.  I'm only giving you these unimportant details incase it helps with anything

I'm afraid it's a bit of a mystery. I would have expected the redirect page sitting on the old domain to the new one  to have worked as soon as I added it.

Actually one thing does occur to me - I wonder if the redirect did work  but the DNS your connection queried hadn't picked up on the existence of the new one at the time and just said sorry mate - not there.

Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

yes i too had a problem with the link  and couldn't sign in but that was at 0800 this morning, and after a few tries though id leave it until tonight,
which it worked fine,

as already been said it was obviously a teething problem luckily enough to which has been sorted out.

and i like the new forum name .
