Scrumpy

... ready made custard again said James Martin..

He said that making your own custard was easy and quick to make..
He started off with EIGHT egg yolks.. saying you could freeze the whites to use later.
he then added CREAM.. MILK.. VANILLA PODS and other flavourings..

All this for a small portion of custard.. He dribbled a couple of spoonfuls over three servings of apple crumble..

Who does he think his audience are... ?  Certainly not the mum who does the school run.. or the pensioner..
or working parents..
Nobody I know would buy EIGHT eggs just to make a small bowl of custard..
These chefs live in a different world..

Tesco do a lovely readymade custard.. As does M&S...
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Ah custard. Yes I remember custard. That was back in the days before I decided to lose a bit of weight. As were many many things....

I agree with you Scrumpy.   These TV personalities live in a world of their own.
The time he made his own starts, then main course, then his custard,  he'd be in the kitchen all day!

I don't use the ready-made much as I remember it being a bit too sweet for me,  but I do use the Birds Custard Powder so I can adjust the sugar as I want.

I am sure that most people do not have a cupboard full of so many ingredients..
It would cost a few bob to knock up some of these (everyday) recipes..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Have you seen the price of vanilla pods nowadays?😳😳

Alex

I buy cartons of ready made custard from Aldi, very nice but too much for one person.

Scrumpy

I too buy the little pots.. They taste fine..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Does custard freeze well?

klondike

Freezes fine. The problems come when it's thawed out
