Title: keeping warm in winter,
Post by: alfred on August 15, 2022, 07:51:42 AM
What with the possibility of power cuts , even during the winter months could electric blankets or hot water bottle play a less important role when it comes trying to keep warm and there for thermal clothing take their place  instead , as I'm sure some people might wear dressing gowns, particularly if they aren't having any visitors ,

Q;  Have you any ideas as to how to keep warm despite the weather and expected power cuts ,  if  so will you share your thoughts with   us,

I have one of these with a couple of batteries which I use for fishing in winter.

It easily keeps me warm all day outside when used with other outdoor clothing. I don't expect to need it but if I do I have it. It might even allow the thermostat to be turned down a notch should the threatened energy prices not be offset in some way but it seems to me to be desperation stakes as does spending most of the day in bed which would be another possibility.

I have a pair of Ugg boots that I wear indoors..  Sweat pants .. regular top.. Not wool (sensitive skin)... I have a fur jacket thing if need be..
When it's bed time I just jump into bed and move my legs around a bit .. I don't wear anything in bed.. just a pair of baggy knickers   I soon get warm.. I get too hot with loads of gear on in bed..
Wasn't it Monroe who, when asked what she wore in bed, she answered Channel No5. !!!

We use them instead of perfume down south.. It's called M&S 22.

In this context is 'down south' an anatomical or a geographical term?

Hot water bottles, fleecy blankets, dressing gowns, warm slippers. Winters on the East Coast of Scotland when I was growing up, meant an open fire in the sitting room, with a one bar electric fire and a paraffin heater for back up. I'll cope.

Good question Diasi!

I reckon most of us will be wearing a few more layers this winter.

Many of the media publications have an energy increase calculator, such as this one in the Express.

It's in the middle of the page.

Our dual-fuel bill went up from £81 pm to £129 pm at the end of May & it's estimated to increase to £234 pm in October  & £279 pm in January.

Combined with single occupancy Council Tax of £137 pm that'll be £416 pm out of our State Pension of £572 pm.

Now I'm old I wear nightclothes, strappy nightie things in the summer and PJs in the winter.
Bed socks too if it's really cold.
