Or is anyone else fed up with hearing about the Grenfell fire?

Errrm! errrm.!!  I dunno..
It was all very sad.. I guess it's up to people whether or not they remember/mourn those who lost their lives..
The news coverage was rather long .. I watched very little of it.
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I got fed up at the time but have heard nothing about it for ages apart from all the problems faced by flat owners with dodgy cladding who can't afford to fix and can't sell.

Jacqueline

Surely the main thing is to learn a lesson and get rid of all the dodgy cladding, that would be the best memorial to those who died.

The buck seems to be passed around so that nobody is responsible except for as usual the poor sod who lives in a potentially dangerous flat they cannot sell and can't afford to remedy.  Not the government who passed the regulations and said it was all safe in the first place which it clearly is not, and the manufacturers who must have known too.

They want to blame the Fire Brigade, who did their best despite being overwhelmed by the situation instead of the real big money culprits who will get away with it as usual.

Mixed feelings.  The local authority (Kensington & Chelsea BC) had allowed the building to become unsafe before the combustible cladding was added, even after numerous complaints and warnings about fire doors, staircases etc.   Still no one seems to be held responsible.

Edward Daffarn, a long time Grenfell resident who wrote a blog about the issues, was seen as an irritant. He wrote publicly because individual complaints were ignored.

Yes  !

It's sad and what an awful way to die.
Does anyone know who actually owns the block, or more importantly the land the block stands on.    Structural engineers have said the block should be demolished, but residents say it's a graveyard and you can't build on it :shh:  :shh: .
If it was knocked down and a new block built, perhaps there'd be money for the compensation, which seems to be one of the main sticking points.

By that reasoning much of London and other cities can't be built on and virtually none of Germany.

GrannyMac

Absolutely. There were ancient bones dug up when the tram rails were being laid in Sheffield.
