Happy 15th Birthday to a remarkable cat who helped move forward the future of veterinary medicine, his story is known across the world.
Oscar was the world's first animal to receive two bionic leg implants, after he lost both his hind feet in an accident with a combine harvester in 2009.
He was flown from his home in Jersey to Fitzpatrick Referrals, where we gave him intraosseous transcutaneous amputation prosthetics, that allowed skin to adhere to metal, and a pair of unique bionic feet enabling him to walk again.
Thank you to a wonderful family who through their love and dedication have given Oscar a long and wonderful life x Professor Noel Fitzpatrick.

We watch Supervet, Noel Fitzpatrick is amazing, and is so caring with his patients and their humans. Some doctors could learn a lot from him.

Yes, he's brilliant, for those who have the odd £25,000 to spare for treatment.
Yes it is expensive but I've read somewhere that he started a charity and does sometimes treat animals for free - but that may be in my head :grin:
I don't understand why Vets have to charge so much :angry: They never used to.
They charge high prices because they know people love their pets and have them insured (usually).. And there are charities that will help the pet owner..
A bit like the greedy dentist.. most people care about their teeth..

Yes there used to be the PDSA. They have stopped working with private vets and run their own Animal Hospitals BUT, if your not in the catchment area for said hospital then they won't help you. At least that's the way it now works in Scotland, they have left a lot of older people stranded as they are on Pension Credits and not able to afford the over priced Insurance payments that go up yearly as their pet gets older.
we stopped insuring Fleur when she got to 10 - premiums were silly. Mind you, if she needed something expensive, we would, and could, have paid - but not everyone is that lucky. As it happened she never did need anything pricy, bless her
