Title: European Political Community
Post by: Alex on September 21, 2022, 07:06:48 PM
Liz Truss looks likely to take the UK into this new organisation, which is the idea of Macron.  Macron has suggested they will discuss issues like security, energy, transport, and movement across borders.

I'm hoping this isn't a way back to the EU by a back door, or am I really so cynical ? - yes I am  :yahoo:

I think Macron is as fed up with Med crossets rocking up in France uninvited as we are with them then rocking up 12 miles offshore waiting for the ferry to Dover.

If she doesn't sort this issue then she will just be a footnote in history unless she gets a record as the shortest serving PM. There is zero chance that the Tories will win a majority in the next election if this continues and there is no party that will enter a coalition with them.

If the Tories don't win the next election we are stuffed as far as illegals go, the Labour party will give them all amnesty.

Sounds ominous to me. What do we have a diplomatic service for?

To give the jolly good chaps who are basically unemployable a nice income old boy.

Aren't they [diplomats] supposed to represent our government and the governments of other countries? Silly question I suppose.

Oh they notionally do that I suppose. They just do it badly at great cost.

They must be extraordinarily bad at it if politicians can do better. Dear God.

Have you ever met up with one of His Majesty's diplomats? My daughter used to be into competitive swimming and the father of one of the other swimmers was in the diplomatic service. I hope very low ranking as he was just about the most useless tosser I ever met. They had a very big posh house though. Could have been inherited money I suppose.

I'm afraid I have never met any British diplomats, one of my wife's friends was a diplomat in the Egyptian service I think, very knowledgeable and interesting chap.

I think it's only western countries that elect idiots to run their countries. Ask any of our lot if they have a PhD and they'll probably say "slightly acidic".

The Deep over on the Mother Ship says he was a diplomat, he seems to be loaded.

I hope he got somebody else to write up the treaties. He couldn't spell. Couldn't come up with good excuses either - he blamed the spelling errors on arthritis. Mind you he was well qualified in other ways.

I don't see the tories doing any better at the moment. I just don't understand why we never put the British National Party in when it was active. We now have probably a dozen or more minor parties that all stand against each other in high profile constituencies and don't stand in most of the others.

Perhaps because the BNP was all about white supremacy? I'm not an SNP supporter, but they include as Scots roughly anyone who is a resident. The BNP was obsessed with skin colour and ethnicity.

I don't know where you get your information. The BNP wasn't like that.

OK. Perhaps not now.  Long memories.
