I wanna see you make a monopoly board using famous places in Yorkshire JB.  That should shorten the game by several hours😉😬🤭
I thought I did, but I don't know where it went.  Must be on another thread.  I'm afraid I forget things these days, but I understand that it is not uncommon with aged people.

But there is a Dotterel bird!
The other two mentioned, however, are only make-believe, especially the Oozlum bird which has the impossible task of disappearing up its own backside.
Logically, you'd imagine it would effectively turn itself inside-out.

Quote from: Raven on Today at 04:12:15 PMI don't consider any of England to be up North. To us real northern folks your way down south. North is where we are, smack on the Pentland Firth.  :1020:
So you're in the North of England?  Good for you.  Certainly the best place to live...
well, apart from one or two not particularly nice places, I suppose.

Common knowledge indeed.

I'm sure others have heard of the now exceedingly rare Oozlum bird which had the unfortunate affliction of flying round in ever decreasing circles until eventually it disappeared.

Plus many will have heard the plaintive cry of the Ooomebumbum bird which has very short legs causing it problems when landing on rocky ground.

Quote from: JBR on Today at 03:14:44 PMI didn't know about selling surplus electricity to private consumers, though.  In fact, I was under the belief that if the wind is too strong they stop and feather the windmill vanes to prevent damage to them, though I stand to be corrected of course.
I didn't know about alternate sales but I think there are two reasons for stopping them spinning. I think they get paid for both. One is when the wind would damage the turbine and the other is when the grid can't use the supply.

I am sure you all know this but - just in case ...

"The Dotterel is a stupid bird, but excellent meat, and with us accounted a great delicacy. It is taken in the night time by the light of candle, by imitating the gestures of the fowler: for if he stretches out an arm, the bird stretches out a wing; if he a foot, that likewise a foot, in brief, whatever the fowler doth, the same doth the bird; and so being intent upon men's gestures, it is deceived and covered with the net spread for it"

Willoughby - Ornithology 1678.
