When ever i go to a supermarket invariably the cashiers mainly women will strike up a conversation with you once they have seen you several times, i don't think its the supermarkets policy to engage shoppers in conversation , but many of these cashiers are mums and chatting as they serve you seems natural and automatic.
and i assume it helps them to relieve the constant swiping of food continuously through the till a sort of relief from boredom like many of you my wife and i have got to know a number of assistants and when we see them , naturally we say how are you , and with others how's the family which starts up a conversation
of course if there's a crowd behind us we don't start a conversation as its more likely to start a row but if the cashier is on their own then a few minutes of cheerful banter i think helps them break the tedious system of swiping items through the till,
Q; Do you chat with the cashier/s when your out shopping particularly the ones you have got to know over time , if so will you share your thoughts with us,
I do.. I chat to anyone who wants to listen..
I don't stand and chat though if there are others in the queue.. That is annoying..
Definitely, When I was a Checkout Manager I always told my ladies, smile it looks good and does you good.
I also stand and yatter but say bye if another customer comes to the till.
I chat to the girls on the till too. I feel sorry for them sometimes when it's sooooooooooooo busy and the job is repetitive, I couldn't do it so good on them.
I usually have a word or two. It's obvious if they are keen to chat or just want to get on from their response. The ones at Lidl get swapped around with other jobs on pretty frequent basis anyway so I doubt that they are all that bored.
Stacking shelves ?
I used to - now I chat briefly with the Tesco drivers

I'm not certain what they do because there aren't loads of shelf stackers on view. Must be some warehouse jobs but surely not all that many.
I chatted to the Virgin man yesterday.. He saw a paint brush in my hand and started talking about art and clay modeling .. Then he said if I ever wanted to sell my motor would I let him know.. He loved it..!!
I always chat to the till staff, and I would rather wait in a queue to be served by a real live person than use those automatic machines which I hate. When I said this to one of the till ladies she said many people do the same.
