Title: Invisible friends
Post by: klondike on January 30, 2022, 06:07:32 PM
Do all children have an invisible friend? Did your children? Did you?

Mine wasn't actually invisible. He was the smaller of two teddy bears of mine and his name was Little Ted. If I spoke to Little Ted then he would talk back. I don't recall him starting up a conversation but he may well have done so.

Being of a scientific bent even as a small child I decided that Little Ted needed to take a parachute jump (???). With this in mind I created a parachute for him. Unfortunately that scientific bent didn't stretch to parachute design and construction. I don't recall details but it did involve the tube from a roll of toilet paper and some sheets of unused toilet paper.

Kitted out with his parachute the intrepid Little Ted was launched from the landing into the stairwell. Disaster struck and poor Little Ted and the parachute parted company.  Admittedly, with hindsight,  that probably made no difference. There was a terrible crash landing. Little Ted never spoke to me again.

I wonder now had I conducted proper trials with the design of my parachute or never had that idea at all would Little Ted still be alive and talking to me. Would I maybe be receiving telephone calls from him even now? Would I meet up with him in pubs? Would I post of these odd conversations on a forum?
