how many of us ever get our shoes repaired?
my favourite story of cobblers...
when i was getting my things ready to join the armed forces i noticed my blue suede shoes were ready for a visit to the cobblers so i took them in the day before i left home, i did tell the man there was no rush... so orf i went to do my bit in defence of the Realm... and in those days one was expected to wear the uniform from entry till demob, so you wore the uniform even when on leave, and were proud to do so... anyway three years later, i was checking my 'stuff' at home and found the cobblers ticket, which brought a broad grin to my chops. so orf i went to the cobblers wi my ticket in my hot little hand, he glanced at it and went into the back shop returning five minutes later......"they will be ready monday"..... Unless you buy quality shoes and often even if you do they are uneconomic to repair these days.

Can't remember the last time I needed shoes repaired. I have about five pairs of normal shoes; the pair getting the most wear - every day in case I need to wear suit and black shoes for a funeral - are a pair of Hotter lightweight slip-ons which must be seven or more years old

yes - they are very good - in the house I wear Hotter slippers - again the same sort of age

And Ecco. My favourites for comfort are Skechers. I need some new ones.
Years ago I used to buy Hotter shoes and could be sure that a six and a half would be a perfect fit but then they changed the fittings.
I find that Skechers do not support very well so am trying Pavers now but they don't do half sizes. I bought a size seven the other day and might put a sole inside.
There's a Pavers shop in the Rows in Chester Sheila did you know ? A Hotter shop too, in the Grosvenor precinct I believe.

Yes, thanks Alex. I have not been going to the shops much (CEV) but we had to go to Chester for our boosters and I bought some slippers from Pavers in the Rows. Chester looked a bit sad to be honest as so many shops have gone. I still miss BHS, Hotter has gone, Debenhams and the Edinburgh Wool Mill, although I don't know how that hung on so long!
I went with a friend to Burleydam Garden Centre and there is a Pavers there too so I bought shoes. It was good to go shopping with another woman. She is a very good shopper and had me sorted out in no time.
My first husband's second wife was supposed to take me to Liverpool for some new outfits (she loves shopping and I hate it) two years ago and then we all know what happened!

I didn't know Edinburgh Wool Mill had closed in Chester, mind it's a couple of years since I've been into the city. I wouldn't trust my ex's third wife (I was number 2) I've seen what she wears :grin: :grin:
