Title: Starmer & 'Beergate'.
Post by: Diasi on April 28, 2022, 07:41:05 AM
Months ago I posted about why Starmer hadn't been investigated over his drinks with colleagues at a gathering of labour supporters in the Durham constituency office.

Well it now looks as though he will be.

It also explains the lack of Partygate questions at yesterday's PMQ session.

Good.  We obeyed instructions, staying in for weeks because I was CEV.  Paul wasn't even allowed to go to the shops in case he caught the virus and brought it back to me.

It seems ironic that despite precautions Paul eventually caught it and gave it to me.  I had lunch with friends yesterday and only one other person had caught covid.

How strange that Boris was investigated but not this one.. !!
However.. This investigation couldn't come at a better time.. It gives Boris a break..

The  one thing it does show is that Labour are beer drinkers and Conservatives prefer the wine..

I suspect Starmer may show a public preference for beer without it being his actual preference. He doesn't really strike me as a beer sort of guy.

I wonder if Nigel Farage knocked a few back with friends
during lock down periods?

We had drinks in our garden with another couple.  They are both retired nurses and were very careful, bringing their own wine and even glasses.  They came in through the garage so did not go into the house!

I think it's largely luck if you catch it or not.  We were extremely careful as I was CEV but in March Paul somehow caught it and gave it to me.  I know quite a few people who have not been careful but have not caught it.

I had been told to pack a hospital bag but I am slowly unpacking it again hoping I am not tempting fate!

Exactly, which is why the emails I get from both Labour & Momentum sources enable me to state, with absolute certainty, that the grassroots Labour members wouldn't piss on Starmer if he was on fire.

I bet he did, along with 10's of millions of other people UK-wide.

The thing is, though, those 10s of millions didn't set the rules or go on TV gobbing off about them all the time.

It seems that the Durham police will be reinvestigating Beergate after all following the presentation of new evidence.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10789545/Keir-Starmer-investigated-beergate.html

Keir Starmer faces a bombshell police investigation into his boozy lockdown curry - after repeatedly demanding Boris Johnson should quit for breaching rules.

The Labour leader is at risk of being engulfed by the so-called 'Beergate' row after Durham Police dramatically declared it will probe 'significant new information' about the gathering.

The force initially decided Sir Keir did not breach Covid rules when he and party aides had drinks and a takeaway in April 2021, when millions of Britons were banned from mixing indoors in most circumstances.

But following intense pressure and a series of revelations - including that up to 30 people attended and shared £200 worth of food - the position has shifted.

Sir Keir maintained a stony silence as journalists threw questions about the situation on a visit to Carlisle this afternoon. Labour said the party was 'happy to answer any questions there are and we remain clear that no rules were broken'.

However, there is frustration among Tories that the decision was only taken after the local elections - when the PM's own fine over the Partygate scandal damaged his support.

The development could raise serious doubts over Sir Keir's future, as he trenchantly argued that Mr Johnson should resign when he was found to have broken the law.

Tonight he said that he is 'confident no rules were broken'.

Sir Keir had been filmed drinking a bottle of lager with colleagues at the event at the offices of Durham MP Mary Foy in the run-up to last year's local elections - and has been wriggling when asked about the incident all week.

The hypocrisy of the lot of them is quite staggering.

Yes Starmer was screaming for Boris to resign before the completion of the investigation.

Why did Durham police wait until after local elections to release this statement  ?

Well they will say because they received new evidence.

they also said they didn't issue retrospective fines - presumably only on the spot

A leaked memo shows that the beer and curry was planned as an end to the meeting from the outset.

If they pursued that policy for all crime their clear up rate would be a tad low.

I'm not sure that they don't! According to the paper a few days ago 500 burglaries a day are not investigated.
