Well it takes more space than just writing "3 today" but each square is only an emoji so only takes a byte or 2. Smilies take more to express as text but can be excused as they cheer the place up a bit.

I like to see them there. I certainly don't bother all the time but if I recall a problem letter I sometimes like to see if others had the same problem or not.

Sometimes it does. A lot hinges on how well you start out. I took 6 on Wordle yesterday and missed entirely on one in Quordle. I don't think I'm any smarter today than I was yesterday.

You should have a go at Quordle. It has a practice mode. IMO it is more skilful as with 4 target words less depends on that first word result.
