That's unusual. Have you tried more than the one bulb? Not that I'm over hopeful but worth a try.

Klondike.. I have tried several bulbs.. I have checked the fittings.. They all seem fine..  I am wary of electric.. 
And I have to climb up and perch on a step ladder .. horrible

Afraid so, am away over to Wick now to the huge Tesco to stock up. Before the weather gets any worse. Only a 20 mile drive and the roads are quiet today.

If it's just the one I'd bet on it being a loose screw in the switch or a duff switch. I found a screw loose in a light fitting once but that affected other lights too as they are all linked. I'm not suggesting that you look at it though.

Stuff can work for years with a loose screw. I did and still do 

A loose screw.. !!!  That says it all..

first cuppa, sad to hear about the King

I am going to try and dig a bush out of the garden.. No rain .. mild.

I might do some minor repairs and some throwing away of junk to make room to tidy.

Then again I might not.
