Covid vaccines

There has been a lot of criticism of those wary of taking covid vaccines.

A study (not yet peer reviewed) suggests that that wariness may well have had some foundation. We know that the goalposts of efficacy have moved a long way from preventing infection to reducing the chances of hospitalisation now even that is called into question. Not by cranks but by bona fide medical research scientists.

Results:
Pfizer and Moderna mRNA COVID-19 vaccines were associated with an increased risk of serious adverse events of special interest, with an absolute risk increase of 10.1 and 15.1 per 10,000 vaccinated over placebo baselines of 17.6 and 42.2 (95% CI -0.4 to 20.6 and -3.6 to 33.8), respectively. Combined, the mRNA vaccines were associated with an absolute risk increase of serious adverse events of special interest of 12.5 per 10,000 (95% CI 2.1 to 22.9). The excess risk of serious adverse events of special interest surpassed the risk reduction for COVID-19 hospitalization relative to the placebo group in both Pfizer and Moderna trials (2.3 and 6.4 per 10,000 participants, respectively).

There are those who are for vaccines and those who are not..
Some are cranks some are not..
One can always find a report that suits what one would like to hear/read...

I believe that having the vaccine cuts down the severity of the infection..
Of course people will still die from becoming infected ... We can't save all the people..
That would take a miracle ..  I'm rambling..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

My problem is that there is no clear conclusion and this business affects lives.

I had two + a booster + a natural infection which was very mild. We are told that there are people catch it and recover without even knowing they caught it - those asymptomatic cases we kept being told about.

To me that says the vaccines are pretty much useless at stopping you catching it as there are so many multiply vaccinated folk just catch it. Sometimes more than once.

Does it reduce severity? How can we possibly know as the symptoms range from not knowing you have it to death regardless of vaccine status.

One thing we can be sure of is that there are adverse effects which range right up to fatal.

I can't make sense of those numbers. They seem to say that the risk from the vaccines is considerably less than the risk from placebos, but somehow get from that to a contradictory conclusion. No?

People vaccinated with anything may report an adverse reaction. They probably have some problem but it was presumably not associated with the vaccination process itself (as opposed to the substance injected) unless a shared rusty needle was involved which we should hope was not the case.

The report is showing the increase in those reports from the vaccine group over the placebo group. The absolute numbers are small but we knew that would  be so given that millions were vaccinated and folk haven't been dropping like flies. The increased percentage is quite high though and certainly enough to be  of statistical significance.

I still can't make sense of those numbers - the first and last sentences seem contradictory

I read on Wales Online that they are talking about a combined Flu and Covid vaccine this winter, not very happy about this at all.

Raven

My daughter had to have both last winter as she sees patients in her job at the Doctors, she was flat on her back for 3 days after receiving both jags together, one in each arm. She's not wanting that again this year, and said she'd rather not have them at all.

Flying Bomb

GB News discuss this sometimes.  Farage and Stein both do.

I definitely will not have the flu and covid jab at the same time..
Last time I had the flu jab in one arm and the covid in the other.. I felt bloody rough for a few days after and the ache in my arm was so intense.. NO.. I will not have them together..
I will book flu jab at Tesco..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I had them both separated by a few weeks - no problems, Don't like the idea of both together - remember how rough most of us felt in the RAF after we had several injections at once

On the news this morning that there will be another booster jab for the over 50s. :yay:

In my case  the balance of risk is telling me that I'll be giving any more boosters a miss.

I'll have yours as well then ta :) :yay:
