Scrumpy

They are talking on the radio about the cost of kitting out children for the Prom..
Horse and cart.. stretch limos with chauffeur .. the list is long..
Parents are struggling now and the charity shops are being used to buy secondhand clothes for the occasion..
One woman said that they added sparkle to a charity shop dress.. and on the day they tarted up a wheelbarrow to push their daughter to the prom in... The daughter was delighted as were all her friends..
Hattie went on the bus with her mates and Joley , her prom date. Everyone was happy..
I don't remember my daughter Marnie getting all dressed up..  I remember the fun she had during Rag Week though..
All of a sudden Rag Week was stopped.. They raised a lot of money for charity..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

There were no Proms at the schools I went to.

Another imported American tradition, along with Baby Showers and Halloween

What was wrong with the disco in the school hall, with crisps and bottles of pop ?

They have Graduation from nursery too now. Complete with cap, gown and scroll  :wtf:

I went to my younger granddaughter's graduation from nursery. It was just a bit of fun. None of my grandchildren are old enough for a prom yet, I assume it's after A levels, so a few years to go.

Kids nowadays miss out on the freedoms that previous generations enjoyed, if they want a special 'do' when they leave school, why not.  Scrumpy, I think its great your granddaughter went on the bus.

I went to Halloween parties as a kid, we went 'guising, in Scotland. Sing a song, recite a poem, tell a joke. I bet Crabby made a few bob! I agree with Alex re baby showers, and even worse are 'reveal' parties. 😑

Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖
