My lovely old Peugeot passed the Ulez emissions standard.. :yahoo:
There is a notice in my town saying that ULEZ could soon be operating here..
well done

That's good, our 2007 Peugeot 307 shows as ULEZ compliant.
Did you have to get an actual emissions test done?
I think it's mostly diesels that fail. Those from when the Blair government were pressing everybody tp get them to save the planet from deadly CO2 as they give so much better mileage. The sort of car the poor buy now as diesels are cheaper to run all round.
https://totalcarcheck.co.uk/ULEZ-Check will show which vehicles are ULEZ compliant along with lots of other stuff
I wondered if Scrumpy had an actual emissions test done since she said it had passed which indicates a test.
I've never heard of one other than the emissions portion of an MOT. It's just based on what standards were met when manufactured although lots of German cars had fiddled certification with their engine management programmed to detect test procedures and behave differently in use than they did in tests.
Many of those cars had their software remapped to actually work as they were certified to. My son had a high performance Merc that came back from a service where that was done that had its high performance destroyed. Lots of people are claiming compensation because the resale values of their cars suffered as a result of this sort of thing.

No.. Sorry about the wording.. Just checked registration number online..

Thanks, that clears it up as the Govt checker shows all petrol Peugeots post Jan 2000 as being compliant.
I just wondered if it was another Khan scam where people thought their car was compliant, only to find out it wasn't after an emissions test.
No way ours would, both big diesel 4x4s and no intention of going electric either. Next ones will be petrol though as that DPF they now have on the newer diesels is a bloody nightmare.
I think it's only an issue on high mileage or if it never gets hot enough to burn the crud off. Lots of the taxis around here are Prius hybrids.
Yes low mileage is our problem I always make sure I take the dog for a walk away along the North Coast towards Durness at least once a week but sometimes it's not enough and the light comes on, THEN, it's 3rd gear at 60 down the A9......bloody annoying to say the least. :yell:
Why do 4x4s park next to me in the car park !!! .. It's a bugger when trying to get out.. They block all vision..
I think it's because you have a small car and they are wide as well as tall and plenty of car parks have tight bays. They don't want to risk a ticket for parking on a line now do they?

I have the same problem when our neighbours park one of their massive SUVs right up to our drive, I have to rely on inching out very slowly & hope that any unseen vehicles will see me before I'm able to see them.
I'm already on the side of the Tyre Extinguishers.

Same here Scrumps with my Fiesta. Sometimes it's hard to get my door open too, they certainly are inconsiderate
It's more down to bad manners if somebody parks right up to your drive gates. It was drummed into me when I was learning to drive that you MUST be a yard from the drive so the drive cars can get in and out easily.

It is well overdue now that our councils and, God help us, our government created laws or rules to prevent this selfish behaviour.
I had always thought that obstruction of people entering or leaving their property should be an illegal activity.
Surely, it wouldn't take a great deal of effort, followed by protracted court cases, to impose legally enforceable penalties to anyone who blocks someone's right of access (and egress) to their property.
The Mondeo, whilst fairly large, is by no means the biggest car around, yet is longer than many of the parking bays around here. At 6' 2" wide, in most bays even I park slap dab in the middle, if someone parks next to me even if they are also in the middle, I can't open my door fully, which with my bad back is literally a pain

My daughter in law usually drives their bigger car, end bay every time!
I try for that bay, but there's always some miserable sod there already!
Yep, the end bay is the solution but as Mike says it's always taken. I end up having to push my seat back to get my leg out :yell:

I thought you had a blue badge Mike.
The end bay.. !! Why?
No car next to the drivers door
I avoid car parks with tight parking spots. I've found that as well as being cheap Lidl stores are mostly newbuilds and have sensible parking spaces.

No. Veronica did, but not me
Quote from: Scrumpy on August 26, 2023, 08:59:09 AMThe end bay.. !! Why?
Because you've only got another car on one side of you
If I'm parking at the beach or the park I always try to park at the end of the space (no bays) so as no other car can get up the drivers side of my car, I need to be able to get the door full open for getting back in, it's still quite a struggle sometimes.
yes, same here

Why don't you apply Mike? Your walking is limited, you need to be able to park close by. Just make sure you don't underplay any health conditions that could affect your mobility. It's very hard for most of us to accept a reduction in our physical abilities, but it happens to lots of us as we age.
On forms that ask about disability, I still want to tick 'no', even though I have two hearing aids and regularly use a walking stick.
Drive in... Drive out..
I am buggered that I will keep going around the car park looking for a space..
I've seen cars crawling around and around.. looking.. waiting..
I just find somewhere else to go.. I can understand if it is a hospital or doctors..
We get two hours parking .. It can take at least half an hour to find a vacant space.. I try and avoid busy times.. so do others.. which means that it is always busy..!!
I've worked it out.. Older people go early morning.. Mums follow.. Then the 'I'm on a mission' shoppers.. followed by ' I need to look around the town' and 'Coffee time'..
We have a massive park (Priory School) with no parking facilities .. so people are 'Looking' all the time..
I would love to have the coast on my doorstep and park up ..

In the past I had to push the seats forward to get my leg over.
Fortunately everything still works & I can get in & out of our car with just the most minimal open door gap, in fact I park it with the driver's door 57 cm away from our house wall & backed right up to the garage door..

57cm. I measured it before I posted so that I didn't mislead the forum. Lol

I was so close to the wall once that I had to take my phone out of my back pocket before I could get out.

Must admit that I am beginning to think about it. Hate the idea, but when I left the clinic I took a wrong turn (all the corridors look the same) and had to walk more than twice as far as I should have done - took an age and I had to keep leaning on walls and the like for a rest - and this has come on quite suddenly. Six months ago my walking was far, far better than it is now.
This seems to confirm the larger car parking problems.
I do have to agree that SUV's should be banned from town centres.

The trend of "autobesity" is forcing car park providers to think of new ways to accommodate larger cars, such as introducing wider bays.
I had my audiology appointments in the next town so walking, bus and taxi were out. The car park there was horrendous.
It had been built mostly of scaffolding with 2 floors (top for staff) and the bays were tiny. Nobody could get in or out of any bay in one go as the roadways were too narrow. It was very busy except for one early morning appointment and there were cars constantly circling for a space of which there were 200 iirc. That meant 200 very frustrated drivers, probably countless dinged cars and probably plenty looking elsewhere. Had they used the space for maybe 180 then drivers at least the 180 who did find spaces would have had a lot less to complain about.
I had my third appointment at an alternate location where I found street parking a hundred yards or so away as the tiny carpark was rammed full. They couldn't transfer me to Northampton so I will be getting a second set of NHS aids from them on Wednesday after a second set of audiology tests. Then I find here that what I assumed would be private aids at rip off prices can be NHS issue aids from High Street opticians who also do hearing aids. Bugger.
Not sure when the Google car went by as it looks empty in this

When I had my VW Passat several years back I found it was a bugger to park, too long and hung over the bay lines, was aye worried I'd get a ticket but I didn't. More time than luck I think as I'm such an early bird, and got into town before 9am and the wardens were not there, they were just wandering down the road from their office place. I was in n out of the town PDQ.
>>. Which? categorised a car as being "too wide" if its width leaves less than 22cm between the car and the bay.<<
22cm? bloody hell how many can get through 8.66 inches? I've checked with a house door - impossible and that's without outdoor clothing
The assumption is that there will be another 8.66 inches plus possibly the width of the line to add from the bay the other side. Doubtless still a squeeze. Especially for an oldie whose body is less supple than a younger persons. Plus the width of the door needs to be taken into account when judging the gap for the driver's body.
must say, that's not how I read it
My next car will be a flip top.. That way my escape plan will be through the roof..

I've just done a test with a house door wedged with a gap of 22 cm & I got through, albeit sideways, & then I realised that the gap included the door handle.
However, I couldn't do it with my smartphone in my back pocket as it could have damaged the screen.
I've also done it wearing my outdoor jacket & that was a tight squeeze but I got through with the phone in my jacket pocket.

Something tells me that you are bored Diasi...
This new rule today makes London a no go area for so many people, not everyone can afford to buy a newer car. I keep waiting for Scotland to follow their daft ideas. I love my old car and couldn't afford to change it to a much younger one, she's a great old bus and doesn't let me down, lots of the big 4x4s are older cars 04/05 and not just up here. £12.50 is a lot of money each day just for having an older car,and living in any borough in London.
I don't believe it will make all that much difference anyway, just freeing up the roads for the rich. :boo:
Most actually living in London boroughs are well off and will have compliant vehicles. The zone has been extended and it's people living in rural counties surrounding Greater London who work in the extended area that will be hit as well as those actually living in the extended area. It is probably a forerunner of what will get rolled out nationally.
and it's a bloody disgrace = but what can you expect from that leech Khan? Winder if he's a descendent of Genghis?
A lot of cars are passing the the ULEZ emissions test.. I think diesel might struggle.. It is down as far a Sutton now.. and Reigate have notices up that ULEZ is on it's way..
Older diesels are the biggest group of failures. Most were probably bought initially because the Labour government at the time were encouraging a switch to diesel to reduce CO₂
