I flagged this up in another thread quite a while ago.

Lovely guy..

That appeal certainly caught imaginations and took off. Shame this happened and tarnished it.
Now I expect through lack of News watching I have this wrong but, was there not some rumour about a daughter and money?
Yes. That's what Phil's link points to.
Wait till the film comes out, more mega bucks for the family.
I should be surprised and disgusted but somehow I'm not really.

The daughter said she was going to build a spa & swimming pool in Tom's memory, but she failed to mention that it was going to be built in her own private garden.
I bet he didn't even know why he had to keep walking round his daughter's garden.

Such a shame that a good man's memory should be tainted by his own family.
Shame the old boy couldn't use it before he booked out, swimming would have been far easier for him than hobbling about on a Zimmer.
Best part is she has had her salary for running this scurrilous activity reduced by the 'Charities Commission' from £100,000 a year to a miserly £85,000. Good luck with collection boxes next year!
The venerable Cap'n no doubt will be looking down thinking how all that walking really helped! I supposed he tried but I found the whole episode at the time, rather sad, verging on the creepy.
Never trust charities!
There was scandal about this charity long before the swimming pool and spa came on to the scene..
In most charities there are (people) skimming off the top..
I find it so sad that his name is now linked to something underhand. I think he'd have been so disappointed.
What with Covid & her Dad she's had a couple of nice little earners.
Well she's certainly taken heed of the 'charity begins at home' message & changed it to 'charity begins & stays at home'.

the woman is a total disgrace
Such a shame, people made donations thinking it was going to heroes only to have it taken by charlatans. It's probably more common than we realise, in the charity sector.
A woman pretended she was dying with cancer and people gave donations for her to have a last wish..
There are so many scams going on..
Captain Tom was a gentle soul.. His greedy daughter has no shame..
I never give to 'Go Fund Me' or anything that I am not sure of..
My local hospice.. dogs/cats home.. I give..
Big charities I avoid.. too many at the top table enjoying the best food..

The only charity I give to is the cat rescue place from where we got our two cats.
Of course, I am a tight-fisted Yorkshireman, and we don't throw our money about.
The prime minister's a Yorkshireman and he throws our money about.
  :nooo:
But he's not throwing his money, so he's having a good time.
:yahoo:
Now his missus pays tax into the UK coffers, you'd have thought he might want to take a bit more care about it.
I don't think he's very prudent with money. A poorer man, or even someone who runs a business, might have been a better choice.
That also highlights a problem with banning "second jobs" to MPs.

No Ashy, his constituency is, Southampton was his 'place' of birth, to Indian Parents. Our sad President refers to him as 'Rashi Sanook' - I have an alternative, but it's nowhere near as polite.
nor me!
He walked so she could swim!
That's almost biblical.

Well, he looks a bit like a Yorkshireman...
well, from certain Yorkshire inner cities!
(Having said that, I have mentioned elsewhere that my optician, dentist and diabetes nurse, all of whom are excellent people, hail originally (or their predecessors do) from the same part of the world.)

I think I'm right in saying that it isn't too far back that one had to be born in Yorkshire to be able to play cricket for the county.
that is correct - although there had been a few exceptions over the years - the best known was Lord Hawke (1860-1938) who captained both Yorkshire and England, but was born in Lincolnshire

These days if they live in Yorkshire.... oh never mind, I didn't mean it seriously. Whatever were Yorkshire voters thinking of?

Absolutely right, the Yorkies dumped that in 1992 when they signed a 19 year old 'Sachin Tendulkar' - the little master - He played 16 first-class matches for the team and scored 1,070 runs at an average of 46.52.
Way back, many births were planned inside the Yorkshire boundaries by hopeful fathers, due to this rule.

Richmond is in North Yorkshire, along with wealthy Harrogate, York etc. Not too similar to Barnsley or Rotherham. William Hague used to be the MP.
