Title: World Worm Charming Championship
Post by: Alex on June 26, 2022, 06:14:37 PM
Try saying that after a sweet sherry or three
Yesterday the WWCC took place in Willaston, incase you missed it on the news, 'Worm Charming' involves coaxing worms out of the rich earth under strict rules. Also known as worm grunting and worm fiddling, it's a serious competitive sport.

Three square metre plots are drawn to entice the creatures from the ground in just half an hour.

Some techniques that are popular include vibrating the ground by sticking implements into it, playing or making music to charm the worms and patting the soil. It's strictly against the rules to import worms from outside or to dig holes in the ground.

Once the allotted 30 minutes elapses, the numbered worm pots are returned for counting and prizes are duly awarded for the single heaviest worm specimen. This year, the charmers were soaked by a freak storm at one point. But enthusiasm remained high for the event after recent postponements.
