Title: The Proposed new UK Human Rights Bill
Post by: Cassandra on June 22, 2022, 10:25:57 PM
Raab's anodyne proposal for a 'UK Human Bill of Rights' as paraded in Westmister today is only part of the problem to control our borders!

We need to completely exit The European Council for Human Rights legislation at the same time as promoting his new legislation to the commitment of our Statute book. Without these actions occurring 'contemporaneously', the ECHR is always superior to any UK court as the ultimate appellant!

This was just a sham today, in my opinion a cynical attempt to salvage votes at the last minute for the Tavistock and Wakefield By-elections tomorrow!

The lefty Law firms of North London will continue to array their appeals to Strasbourg successfully until Hell freezes over, unless we withdraw. Its rather like trying to climb a 20ft wall with a 10ft ladder, the wall always wins!

What are we afraid of?

In this case possibly the R word or maybe risking being the next government. The future don't look rosy. Let the other lot fail big time then surge back.

Most people do not understand the simple fact that New legislation is meaningless without renouncing the previous superseder!

Raab is relying on his semantic prestidigitation to fool the many for a while and particularly tomorrow in a few selected postcodes!

Meanwhile a city the size of Newcastle lands every year via the South East Coast. Imagine what Labour would do by openly encouraging this suicidal policy. Also everyone is a guaranteed vote for them and thay know it.

Let me try. Probably unsuccessfully.

We are signed up for an international convention (European Convention on Human Rights) and have declared in UK law that judgements on our adherence to that by UK Courts can be overruled by the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Raab is not removing that. He is tinkering around the edges by changing the interpretation UK courts can place on some aspects of the international convention. So our courts say one thing and still get overruled by the court in Strasbourg and their judgement still holds sway.

It doesn't help that the same acronym is used for the convention and the court. ECHR.

There are two by elections today. It is probably no coincidence that this pile of old  💩 is being introduced now.

Yep. 6 years on and we still aren't free with the risk that in another 6 we will be tied even closer.

No they haven't Cassandra, I understand only too well what you have said. Our government are trying to fool us by all this rubbish they know won't change things, just like they knew no flight would ever take off to Rwanda, but took the heat off them for a while.

I think some posts must have been removed from this thread. I was replying to somebody other than you Cass. I don't recall who though.

No worries, An open door policy is not what the Scottish people want. It's what the SNP seem to want...... :worried:
Sadly the gap between myself and them is getting wider.

Trouble is Raven, you may not want this, the Scottish people may not want this, but Nicola and the SNP will do it anyway just like the rest of them, bugger what the people want.

That's my take as well - and there wouldn't have to be a referendum to take an independent Scotland into the EU - always provided the EU would accept another non-contributor

Mike I had a talk with my neighbour in Perth about that, he's an SNP Councillor, and he assured me that there would have to be a vote on returning.

A politician's promise? One can but hope. Don't forget, there was no referendum for the UK to enter the EU in the first case, only one some years later as to whether we should stay in.
