Title: Writing.
Post by: Raven on December 12, 2021, 09:51:54 PM
Is it possible to enlarge the writing on the forum? It's way too small and hurts my eyes.

I don't see any options and just took defaults for most things. I can manually edit the css files as a last resort but what are you using to use the forum?

On a Windows computer you can just scale the size by holdind CTRL down and twiddling the mouse wheel or pressing the + or - keys. The browser should remember your choice by site.

Tablets don't seem to be so accomodating as zooming means you have to scroll around. It looks small on my tablet too now you mention it. I've mostly been using laptop or desktop while installing it.

It seems editing the CSS is the only way to achieve it...

There are lots of places it needs doing. I had a play but it mostly just messed up. I'll take a look at some alternate themes to see if one works better on tablets. Users can select which theme they want to use if you install more than one.

There is a theme specifically for mobiles. I'll install it tomorrow. It could well be horrible though as it will be simplified.

Morning, I'm using my Desktop Computer and Windows Ten.

In that case it should enlarge easily enough by holding the Ctrl key down and either rotating the mouse wheel or pressing the + key as often as needed.

The mobile theme is no longer supported so I don't want to install that one. I will have a look to see if there is another theme that has larger text.

This is all I can see about text sizes on mobile devices

I tend to just use the two finger zoom method and scroll aroun as needed.

Yeah Raven asked.
https://pensioners.digitalham.co.uk/index.php/topic,16.0.html

Was it this small when you first saw it? I can't figure out why it is so small and there are no options to alter it. ctrl key and rolling the mouse button will work on a PC or lappy

I might try installing the 2.1 version but that isn't at final release level yet.

Following on from what I said to crabbyob I have installed the latest version of the new 2.1 release which isn't deemed to be production ready by the developers and  it is the same size as this one with nothing in the admin panel to alter it . I even stole the main CSS from PF which had some minor changes and the sizing remains small which is odd.

Here is the basic install of 2.1 - https://pensioners.digitalham.co.uk/pensioners21/index.php

Did as you said and it's fine now, thanks. Computer remembered too so I don't need to do it each visit.

I think I got part way towards fixing it a bit too. I'm using it on my tablet and it is no worse than PF itself.

If it does come to having to be used I'll probably allow picture uploads too. Just don't expect them to stay there forever.

No worries I don't mind my photos being temporary. The Forum I ran with my daughter for years got a bit full up with stuff as well. Regan found a setting and it self cleared the posts, photos, ect every 6 months but only on inactive threads/posts, it worked well and we stayed un cluttered.

Yes it can clear itself out. I forget what the options were but probably time based. I'll fit a bigger disk and enable uploads. Maybe tomorrow. I think there were even automatic resize options which would be handy given some of the monsters that appear on PF.

That would be helpful - I almost get a crick in my neck having to scroll across a good few pictures

It's an attachments option but there are no settings on sizing. I'm just playing with the forum at the moment and will be putting a bigger disk on sometime soon to support the attachments so it will be off air again at some point while I do that.

It seems the resize doesn't mean much at all from what I see with my test. There is an option to just add as a thumbnail but I'm not sure that helps much though.

I just tried one of my photos taken with the camera and zoom. I got the same message I always did on the other forum "your file is too big" no option to rezize it.

How big is it?

I set the upload limit higher than we got on PF before it stopped working but certainly not enough to just take a camera file which these days can be 12MB or more and would fill space in no time if it wasn't actually resized. It would also make the time to display quite long on slow internet connections.

I set a maximum display size which makes attachments open as just an image when a thumbnail is clicked and if smaller display in line when clicked. It does mean all attachments show as thumbnails but that probably isn't a bad thing so long as people realise.

For extrernal pictures it puts size data on the html which makes it work well. I set it to 800 wide which should display OK on most devices I think.

I'll try with a big size picture as an attacment and see what it does.
