Title: Cricket
Post by: klondike on June 28, 2022, 07:44:40 AM
Even had a brief mention on last night's Farage on GB News.

Something about a new captain, new coach and new manager I think and apparently they have actually started winning.

Well done England.

May I bore everyone with a statistical overview of the summer to date - OK, don't bother to reply!

With a thread title of cricket I would suggest that you are unlikely to bore anybody apart possibly from Cass

I now consider Root to be the best batsMAN I've ever seen Mike. My two pals here (currently fishing) with many tests between them and my distinguished journalist friend (tapping away next to me) we all agree you put his name down first on any England Test listing. Incidentally one of them umpired as two 12 year old schoolboys scored 420-0 to win an inter County game at 8 an over. Their names Root and Bairstow!

Yorkshire seems to have its share of really good cricketers!

Yes and good to see, there was always the edict, 'when Yorkshire's strong, England's Strong' and with good cause. Up till 1992, you had to have been born in Yorkshire to play for them. An admirable tradition that was broken when they welcomed Sachin Tendulkar (India) the 'little master' to appear for them.

Today, they would have been referred to the ECHR for having such an edict!

I am looking forward to the India Test - hope the new approach continues to work. Feel for Pope- rather like the little girl with the curl - when he is good he is very, very good, but when he is bad, he is horrid. The gate through which he was bowled by Boult in the first innings, would not only have accommodated Sir Geoffrey's 'coach and horses' but a corporation double decker - sideways! Pope's dismissal  in the second was just as bad, if not even worse, 'gate' wise.

Poor Pope's all over the place at the moment Mike, just not grounding in this fast change England profile yet. He will, he's just got to believe in himself. A vital stage in his career. Ben's batting like a lunatic just now though. Three times an idiot in the first innings and must temper his aggression selectively. We might need him and Billings to see us through? There's plenty of time.

Imagine being India 370 on and now facing defeat from an all time 4th innings chase to win!

Reminds me of the great West Indies teams of Viv Richards and co. The Indians are definitely rattled, their non stop sledging, especially from Kohli suddenly very quiet now!

How proud dear 'Bluey' Bairstow would be of his son. Yorkshire to the rescue again! Good luck tomorrow boys. Our 'panel' here votes 11/0 for England to win. Four Englishmen, 6 Yankees and one American Indian Chief in the audience. My home Cinema was nearly full for the first time today and the Bars still going strong. These Americans love cricket and having three retired International experts here to explain the nuances of the game, field settings etc is 'just magic man!

The local bookies are puzzled at how to price the odds though!

really enjoyed yesterday - great entertainment - really feel for Lees -second time he has been run out this summer. Crawley must be embarrassed by that leave - it didn't really move in - just the angle. Perhaps he thought it would bounce higher?
Fingers firmly crossed for today. It should be possible - but two wickets and a pretty fragile tail is exposed

Still pinching myself - how on earth do you concede a first innings deficit of 132 and go on to win, with ease, by seven wickets? Biggest successful run chase in England's Test history, by far the biggest successful chase at Edgebaston - undefeated centuries by Root and Bairstow - and three months ago this was a side that had just one Test in their last 17! Now four Tests against the sides rated 1 & 2 in the world, and four victories by five wickets, five wickets, seven wickets and seven wickets! The mind boggles!

Right now Mike, poor Crawley doesn't know where his off stump is and is struggling between his own mind telling him what to do and all the other 'advisory' ones saying leave it alone, drop your wrists, go back and across etc etc. It was also a damn good ball that got him. Yes I'd persevere with him too, he's too good to let go and also a good slipper!
