Interesting day .. My bank got in touch with me asking if I recognised some transactions..
I didn't.. Spoke to the Fraud department..
It would seem that my card was used to Top-up.. Uber and a company I didn't recognise.
My card was immediately cancelled..
I wonder if they were testing the waters by using it on small amounts before going in for the kill.. !!
It must be a big headache for the very wealthy..
So pleased that I don't have that worry..
That's always such a worry these days. I hope your bank is refunding your money that was stolen. This is so much easier these days with the contactless payments. I haven't had a check in a shop for ages, the wee payment machine often used to refuse me and I had to put the card in and use the pin no.
The bank were great..
They were suspicious straight away.. They mentioned the transactions but not the amounts.. They sent me a text and asked if I had authorised a certain transaction.. I hadn't..
They cancelled my card immediately.. At no loss to me..
Such a nuisance.
It's good your bank is on the ball and watching out for their customers. If it had slipped past them things could have got bad.
I think you are right.. They would have gone in for the kill at some point..
Glad it went ok. We've had this a few times - always sorted by the bank in good order :)
First time for me..
As you still have the card it must have been cloned. That could have been by using a cash machine that had been fixed or maybe somewhere that you handed the card over.
Bit old as it is not for chipped cards but the same applies to them and to the NFC wireless cards - you can't clone them with these but there are apps on the Google app store that let a phone with NFC read them and show the data.

Mm.. I've had it too but only once. No probs
The last two times we've been done have been traced to petrol stations darn sarf.
One said Finsbury Park London and the other just outside Oxford.
Oh no.!!! I wonder if it was that naughty man at the petrol station yesterday...
Did you say you handed him the card?
No.. I tapped it but it didn't work.. He then told me to put my card in the machine..
Did the machine look completely normal? Does your contactless often fail? If that was the only time you used the card recently with anything out of the ordinary happening I'd be dubious.
I imagine that the card security bods will note your recent transactions and if others using the same place as one of yours got cloned too they would be on to it.
They fit up cash machines with a false bit to skim the cards. I've never seen such a thing but they are supposed to be well hidden.
Only problem I've had was darn sarf too, in London.

I can understand how cash machines get fitted up, that's why I refuse to use them. I get cashback from the shop when I pay for my messages. If I need it. But how do they fit up a shop pay machine, they would surely be seen. :hmm:
I don't know but I'd guess on them either using a different machine for the transaction or if you lose sight of the card it's easy enough to scan it then put it in the machine ready for you to enter the pin.
Whatever it is they do works because getting cards cloned in garages and restaurants is well known.
I remember reading that a favorite way is to pretend to drop the card behind the counter and clone it while retrieving it. It only takes a moment to do.

I use pay at the pump for my fuel. It seems everyone's at it nowadays.
The petrol station was the only place that I used my card.. by inserting it.
My other transactions were as normal..
My bank card had only just been replaced..
NatWest issued a new bank card without me asking for it..
It is a card that doesn't show any details on the face of the card.. So, when you tap it, details are not on show to others..
Must be a new trend as I have one like that. Bit of a pain using it for a one-off online transaction as you don't have the details in front of you. I suppose the idea is that the clones won't have the CVV as that is only printed on the card.
I fear it will just encourage people to allow sites to store their payment details. Probably OK for the really big players as they should have good security but a small company? No way Jose.
my son got caught once and it weas the local petrol station
It would seem that petrol stations are not doing too well in this thread..
I shall tell people at the Co-op ...
I'm guessing they can't put the petrol charge through. If they did then it should be easy for the cc companies to spot where cards were being cloned. As you get the fraudulent charges refunded you might end up winning. Worth a check to see if you were charged for the petrol Scrumpy.
The petrol is listed in my transactions.. Pending..
Can't win 'em all....
