Well Dageus has to have surgery and goes in for an operation on the 1st of Sept. In the mean time he's on a high dose of anti inflammatory tablets, along side pain killers for ten days. It's the tooth/gum at the very back of his mouth, vet also thinks there may be a bit of an absess there as well. Poor Dageus.
It cost me £110 this morning and I asked for a breakdown of what's to come, have a look at the list. I could weep, but it's for my boy.

Poor chap, that is very painful.
Oh dear, poor Dageus. I hope the painkillers help him
No wonder he's been off colour poor boy.
Vet bills aren't cheap, we spent just over £2,000 on treatment for one of our cats recently, but sadly she didn't make it & was put to sleep when I took her for a post-op checkup.
Still, we did our best for her.
You thought it might be a tooth didn't you ?
Poor Dageus, it doesn't matter what it costs, we pay it don't we !
God bless him, I hope the pain killers are helping him. ❤
Oh, Raven - poor Dageus. I do hope he soon feels better. It's so worrying when they aren't well - if only they could tell us what is wrong. I had an abscess over a tooth once - absolute agony until the tooth cam out.
Mike
I think the antibiotics are kicking in as well as the pain killers, he's not so miserable and is now watching what's going on around him again. It's a big improvement. Will be so glad when all this is over and he's back to normal.
Was the delay to allow time to get rid on an infection or lack of capacity at the vets? I'm guessing the first. Dentist won't usually touch a tooth if it is infected.
Vet said the swelling and infection had to go down before they could do anything.
Same as dentists then which makes sense. He'll be sorted soon with any luck.
Hope Dageus will feel better soon when the antibiotics kick in, nothing so bad as toothache if your a person or a dog.
I do hope that he makes a speedy recovery - as I mentioned, an abscess over a tooth is bloody agonising.
Mike
Get well soon Dageus...
He had a walk up river with me this morning and seemed to be enjoying it.
oh good - give him and extra treat (if not disallowed) with my name on it!
I will Mike, he always got a chew stick when we come back from our walks before this started. Now he's on soft treats so as not to hurt his mouth. Same for eating, it's pasta, rice, with scrambled eggs or chicken pieces mixed through.
Poor wee beastie.
Well that's Dageus at the Vet for his operation. He's really upset and the nurses had a hell of a job getting him downstairs to the holding pens. He saw I wasn't coming and he dug the heels in hard. Heaven knows how he's feeling towards me at the moment. I have deserted him and he's in a cage. Poor Boy I feel terrible for him.
Hopefully once it's done he'll forgive you.
You'd think they'd allow or even encourage owners to go to the pens with their pets. Especially if they are reluctant to go.
" getting him downstairs to the holding pens. "
I had to read that twice. After the first time I said "Holding his WHAT?"
The vets encourage people to stay with their pets at their final hour because it's distressing for them, it's even said some know what is to happen. I stayed with my cats and held them when they were put to sleep. I felt so guilty too, but there was nothing more to be done for them and they were both a good old age when they died.
I dunno why I'm telling you this, but it doesn't make sense Raven that you couldn't go down to the pen with Dageus if he was obviously so distressed, just to settle him down.
You wrote that at 9.45 so the operation will be over by now and he'll be recovering. He'll feel so much better soon, we know ourselves nothing worse than bloody toothache ! Look forward to seeing more photos of him :upvote:
hope he recovers ok.

One of our Yorkies had to be put to sleep after we took her to the vet, for what we thought would be for some treatment, during the first Covid lockdown.
Not being with her at the end of her life is something that haunts me on a daily basis.
I hope Dageus is ok.
Nurse just phoned, he had 3 teeth out. OMG 3. [1100] Poor thing, they were only talking about the one.
He's awake but not very happy, we are both going in at 4.20pm to have a talk with the vet then take him home.
That's The Hairy One home again. Poor souls like a drunk man staggering about. He's on soft food for 2 weeks, no chews, biscuits ect. Good job I got plenty of eggs, pasta and rice in.
He goes back to see the vet on Monday just for a quick check up. But I'm so glad he's back.
Poor old dog, that's rotten luck but he'll get over it. :upvote:
Thanks Ashy. He's just polished off a bowl of pasta and 2 scrambled eggs through it, a good night's sleep will help him a lot.....I hope.
At least you've got him back home where he belongs & he'll soon adapt to having a few less teeth.

Good luck with that then 😃😃😃
So glad he's home :upvote:
So glad to hear he is home, Raven - give him a pat from me
Mike
Thanks Mike I will. He had a peacefull night and he's a bit brighter this morning. Took a very early stroll up river and he enjoyed that. He's on soft food now for a couple of weeks, no biscuits, chews ect. Back at the vet on Monday to see how it's healing.
Glad to hear he is on the mend, poor lad.
He's not going to be happy when he has to go back to the vet

That's what I thought as well, he might think he's being left again and refuse to go in. It's no fun when a six stone dog says NO.
Good news that he's eating (even if it is just soft stuff) a sure sign he's getting better.
