Title: Posh Totty
Post by: Sheila on July 01, 2022, 09:51:19 AM
I don't know how Scrumpy got this name.  Did you give it to yourself Irene?  I think that I may be more deserving as, after all, I was born in Liverpool!

Anyway the reason I am posting is that it reminded me of the most back handed compliment I have heard.  Several years ago, when I was still working, we all went out for a meal one evening.  A young man was sitting next to a colleague.  He had had a few drinks and leered at her and said 'You must have been top totty in your day'.

I had a 'jolly hockey sticks' titled girlfriend 55 years ago from Henley. She was known then as being 'Hot Totty'. My friends bought me a pair of oven gloves prior to our first date!

And was she Cass ?

Sheila talking about Liverpool, reminded me that I knew I must be getting old when a market trader called me "Queen"

I could also be in line for that Monicker. After leaving the island and coming to the mainland we lived in my grandparents huge old house, it was the Dower House to Balhouse Castle, set in a lot of grounds, with attached stables. My sisters and I went to private school and we always had decent pocket money.  [1180]
BUT, I am a daughter of the Jacobites according to my Highlander dad, who always drove that into our young heads, and proud to be one as well. I live with another proud Highlander, who with his looks and attitude would be more at home in the 16th century, and doing his bit in the Clan Wars, he's very much the Clansman. :embarrassed:
So Highlander suits me.

Not a name I've ever heard anyone being called, must be a southern thing. There used to be a dog at the Training Club called Queenie though, a lovely B/W Collie.

Scrumpy, you live in the Home Counties. That makes you posh by default!

Nah nah !!   Not everyone...
Being 'posh' has to be earned..
We never go out without a bit of lippy on..
.. never wear jams jams to the Co-op..
We smile nicely when a pensioner jumps the queue..
We cut labels out that say Primark..
We always say Spaghetti .. never Spag...
.. and only have Tesco delivery after dark..

It always made me laugh when they called Victoria Beckham posh spice, her voice was not posh at all, I speak better than her!!!

What actually makes "posh"? there are folks with pots of money, tacky taste and common as muck, then folks with stately homes falling down, not a pot to pee in with family trees going back to the Norman's. Old money every time.
