I have just planted my Olive tree in the garden.. She is bathed in sunshine and away from any strong wind..
She must be very happy to get out of the big pot she has lived in for years..
She can now stretch her roots...
Might be the wrong time of the year to move her but she is a strong old girl .. I look forward to her providing me with some olives.. Over the years she has produced some but they are not much good..
I've moved an olive tree from a pot to the ground and that survived just fine. Not sure but I think it's now you are supposed to do it anyway. Assuming you moved the entire rootball I can't see how it could do any harm whenever you moved it.
I also planted one from a nursery out the front after seeing how well next doors had grown. I had olives but they didn't for some reason. I don't eat olives my son tried one and pronounced it horrible. The birds picked them off when they eventually turned black and they stained the block paving. I'll be quite happy if they don't grow olives again for a while.
I planted the whole root ball.. Her olives were very bitter.. Morrison's are better..!!
She stands about 6ft..
This was the rate that next doors grew at. They had to have somebody lop the top out of it recently. Mine is growing but still quite sparse. The one transplanted from a pot out the back seems to be taking off now but that was done several years ago.

Mine is sparse too.. she hasn't thickened out yet.. She stands at the bottom of the garden not in front of any windows.. I have two Japanese Acer trees nearby that are very old.. I keep them trimmed down.. I don't have a big garden and these trees seem to fit in nicely..
I love the Japanese Acer trees, beautiful colours. I had a beauty, unfortunately it died. I've never tried an olive tree in the garden :smiley:
We have a fig tree which has not done very well for the last couple of years. We get figs but they don't ripen. I could do with some advice from firenze but she does not seem to have been on the other forum for a long time.

I bought a 'stick' (the Acer) and stuck it in the ground about 20 yrs ago. It grew into a rather large tree which was too big for it's situation. Sawed off every branch and took off the height and, luckily, the following Spring it started to bud-up and I now have a great looking if rather squat, mature tree.

One of my Japanese Acer is a Reddish colour.. When the sun is shining on her she looks like a flame..
I had one of those acer trees. I brought it in a huge pot from my big family house to my wee bungalow 20 years ago. It ended up in a wooden half barrel and broke through that. My son now has it in the ground at his house.
Same with my sprig of bamboo, it went in the ground about ten years ago must be at least 15 feet high now.
