Very little now mention on our news channels yet £millions of our taxes are going there. Thankfully you-tube have many news channels which give good coverage. Russia are sending in untrained men to fight who are getting slaughtered. Airfields and  ammunition depot in Crimea now being destroyed along with Russian supply routes. Putin food tester has die of food poisoning was reported.

I don't believe that we have any option but to support Ukraine. If Putin gets away with it again other countries will follow. All he is missing is the silly moustache for it to be a repeat of history and ignoring the last thug didn't work out too well.

Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

Its quite surprising just how many countries are supporting Ukraine. Georgia even have troops on the ground fighting. I feel the war will be over in a matter of months not years. Thousands of the rich are leaving Russia and setting up home else where

The way I see it, if the Ukraine government does not surrender soon, there won't be anything left for them to govern and they will be in exile.

You're not following what is happening then Ashy.

The Russians have been exposed as a paper tiger, albeit with nukes, who are incapable of invading Ukraine. In best part of 6 months into the latest phase they were pushed back from Kiyv inside a week with the complete destruction of the special forces units sent to take the airport and capital. They are making no further progress in the areas they occupied in the east and are starting to suffer military losses in Crimea which they annexed in 2014.

Ashy

We have different perceptions and sources of information, that is all.

I don't understand the reports about a certain nuclear establishment that has been taken over by the Russians. Does this mean the Russians were shelling themselves then ?  :hmm:  :hmm:  :hmm: or just badly worded !

" Russia has taken control of Europe's largest nuclear power station in Ukraine after it was hit by shelling. A fire started at the Zaporizhzhia plant after it was shelled by Russian troops, Ukrainian officials say. The UN's nuclear watchdog said radiation levels and the safety of reactors were not affected."

klondike

I don't think the details are actually fully known. The last I read there were still Ukranian civilians (the normal staff) inside the plant keeping it either running or at least safe and it was surrounded by Russian troops. Maybe what you read is saying that the Russians shelled it so the Ukranians did a bunk. Hopefully after shutting it down safely as a bunch of Russian conscripts who can't even be trusted to know which end of a rifle the bullets come out from would  have no clue.

This is how I see this conflict going. Ukraine will eventually cede some territory in the east and south (including Crimea) and agree to remain neutral with its neutrality guaranteed by Russia, and it will recognise the independent republics of the Russian Donbass.

If the present regime in Kiev does not concede for any reason, the conflict will continue until a new regime takes over and makes the treaty. This will be argued about by the government in exile but that's how it ends. By then the western allies will be effectively bankrupt and their politicians will be very wealthy.

I was wondering where to go for a holiday that I hadn't been before. I settled on Crimea. Seems there are lots of vacancies but nobody is taking bookings. All very odd.

Scrumpy

The heatwave and flash flooding has taken priority over Ukraine..
Something else will come along of more interest to the the people and Ukraine will gradually be forgotten..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

The war there is at a stalemate so nothing much to report.
That said the Russians do appear to have been very careless at several of their military installations such as arms dumps and airfields in Crimea causing considerable destruction. Being a couple of hundred miles behind the front lines everybody is puzzled. The Russians declared that the airport one was caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette and the others possibly saboteurs. Ukraine has made no official comment. Meanwhile there were traffic jams on the way out with thousands of Russian civilians terrified of more mishaps with smoking materials.

It seems there were some badly constructed bridges across the Dnipro river in Kherson Oblast too. Those are now unpassable leaving about 20,000 Russian troops on the wrong side of the river wondering how Pizza Hut can deliver their orders as they are completely cut off.

hugh

Quite surprising just how much is going on. Most effort now finding and taking out Russian ammo dumps, Ukraine special forces are going into Russian held towns and killing Russian soldiers undetected. Quite a lot of  Russian soldiers are fighting with Ukrainians forces. The biggest worry Russians are firing missile from the worlds biggest nuclear power station.
