Title: The price of milk
Post by: Alex on August 06, 2022, 10:41:58 PM
I always buy Cravendale Milk because I don't use a lot and it lasts for ages.  It was always between £1 and £1.15 in the supermarkets so I was shocked to read this today.  The top supermarket price was cut off but it was the Asda at £1 so I'll be heading there next.

This site is quite handy for supermarket prices, I don't use it for everything, but if I need say coffee, it's useful to see where has my brand cheapest.   https://www.trolley.co.uk/

Good advice, thanks, never knew that site before.

I rarely go to Sainsbury's but last time I did, I found they matched the price of Aldi for many lines.

We only have Co-op and CK's supermarket in our nearest town, the prices are crazy compared with Aldi, you can put a pound or more on an item.  Both Aldi and Lidl put in plans to build a supermarket in the town and were refused, I don't know what reason was given for the refusal, probably that lot ganging together?

I refuse to give them my custom and travel 15 miles to Carmarthen to shop, probably paying as much in fuel or more than I save, but I won't be ripped off by these people.

Now paying £1.55 for a four pint of milk, my coffee went up 40p overnight, it's not penny rises anymore, where will it all end?

I pay £1 per litre at our local farm shop for full fat healthy milk from a machine.

I suppose we were all brought up on full fat milk and it didn't do us any harm ! though I no longer like the taste so stick to semi skimmed.  Scrumpy drinks skimmed, I don't like the taste of that either, it's too watery

I went to semi for many years and when I returned to full fat, I will never go back....Man's milk.

My father drunk full fat milk, cheese, cream (he worked in a dairy) eat fatty meats all of his life.  He didn't have high blood pressure, his heart was good, unfortunately he smoked all his life too so Lung Cancer got him, we all have to go somehow in the end.

Personally I have never liked milk not cream, I have semi skimmed in my coffee and tea but can't stand the stuff otherwise.

I loooove cream. In doughnuts, on puddings, in mashed potatoes. We have semi skimmed milk, and cream is a rarity.  But we do use real butter.

Semi-skimmed is our buy for cereal and tea/coffee.

You do get a discount if you buy two, though (of the 4pt containers).

butter for me, too, plus semi-skimmed milk - I find full cream a bit sickly, and skimmed too watery

I don't mind that skimmed milk is too watery..
I always have some Carnation Evap in the cupboard .. I like it on rice pudding or fruit..

Sainsbury's Local are charging £1.65 for a 4-pint container today. What really riles is when the milk is in a 2 litre container for the same price, making it even more expensive, as 2 litres is only 3½ pints.
