Each time I've come on today there's been several guests, 8 at the moment. Is this new site easier to find?

It's probably googlebot and others indexing it. The new forum code provides better info for them to be able to do that which was one of the reasons I wanted to change over to it. Whether it will result in any new signups is unfortunately doubtful... 

Pensioners looking for a forum will naturally enough search for pensioners forum, Well we know where that leads and it seems that google isn't smart enough to spot that place is frequently as dead as the grave. There have been lots of new posters appear there and vanish again after a short time. Had they come here I suspect that they may have stayed but they never found us.
