The Steinway Tower skyscraper , which has opened for residents, isn't just exceptionally tall, it is almost painfully thin...
More than a quarter of a mile high but no more than 60 ft wide.. is the worlds skinniest skyscraper... Each apartment covers one floor and has an all round panoramic view..
It sits on an area dubbed Billionaires Row... Look north and you can see Central Park.. Looking South shows you the full length of the Manhattan skyline..
Wow!! I don't think I could live in a building like this.. I would be worried to look out of the window..
Could you live there..?
In a word....... No.
I feel dizzy just looking at the photo - I'd be scared of it falling over!
Mike
Apparently it sways.....I wouldn't mind having an apartment there for a month or so
If someone could put the pic up I would be pleased.. Thank you..

Thank you Alex.
No, I would be very nervous of that.
I heard that these thin building are going up to exploit a loophole in the building regulations. Only partly heard it but they are pooling some rights or other of adjoining plots with less tall buildings which don't need or use those rights. Apparentlt there are others either in place or planned.
I remember going to the top floor some BT building or other in London iirc (not the Tower) which was only 30 floors high but I swear you could feel it moving.
Love the flats/apartments or what ever you like to call them but not the view. Not an ocean in sniffing distance and that's the kind of view that does it for me.
My pal in Thurso lives in a modest 2up 2down with a wee patch of garden, BUT, it looks out over Thurso Beach and I love to sit in her kitchen or in her garden with my coffee. In the winter when the Storms come it's a wonderful place to watch the wild waves, they come half way up her garden sometimes.

He does, he's a beach lover like me. The smell of the ocean stirs my soul.
What an amazing place to live. I like both city and seaside, but not forever
I mostly prefer city view.. I enjoy watching life going on.. The evenings and early mornings when the lights start to come alive...
I don't care much for solitude..
I've been lucky. I've lived by and above the Pacific for long periods, in and around forests in the low arctic, enjoyed living and running in the desert(!), experienced sub-tropical island life and city life in Barcelona but, like I said, I've been lucky but you gots to do it when you're young, imo. Nothing against doing it in retirement but it's not the same when it's a brief holiday as it is living it. Having said all that, they're still just memories. :hmm:
I also recognize the fact that most people have to make a living! We can't all be dreamers jumping on the next cloud that passes.
Many of the apartments in these tall buildings stand empty..
People are put off by the sway.. and visitors have reported to feeling ' super nauseated'.
If hit by high winds , tall skyscrapers can bend by as much as 3 ft..
We should build a few to house those waiting for their asylum claims to be processed. Cheaper than Rwanda. A couple a year should do it at first.
